Amroha: In a bizarre incident in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district, a 23-year-old man named Nazim faked his own kidnapping in an attempt to extort Rs 25 lakh from his family. The Amroha police arrested Nazim and his friend, Amit, after solving the case within just eight hours.
According to the police, Nazim, with Amit’s help, staged his abduction and sent a video to his cousin, showing him tied up on the floor of a room with his hands and legs bound by a rope. He also sent multiple text messages to his brother-in-law, Shaukeen, demanding the ransom for his release.
The situation came to light when Nazim's father, Arif, lodged a police complaint after receiving the ransom demand. Acting swiftly, the police registered the case and formed three teams to trace and rescue Nazim.
The investigation led them to Najibabad, where Nazim was found and his friend Amit was arrested. However, during questioning, Nazim admitted to fabricating the kidnapping to extort money from his family, citing financial difficulties.
“Amroha police solved fake kidnapping case in just 8 hours. Two friends suffering from financial crisis created a fake story of kidnapping of their friend (Nazim) to earn money. They demanded 25 lakh rupees,” the police said in an official statement.
Both Nazim and Amit have been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the law. Further investigation is ongoing.
