Amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Pakistan’s retired Air Marshal Masood Akhtar has said that the United States' intervention is necessary to ensure de-escalation, citing Pakistan’s increasingly "difficult" situation.

In an interview to a Pakistani TV channel, he said, "Whatever has happened here should rattle all of us. This is a very difficult time, the answer to which we don't have, as of now. De-escalation won't happen as long as the United States does not intervene."

Acknowledging India's superior military might, Akhtar said, "India planned the attacks in advance. They have a force of 16 lakh and our strength is only 6 lakh. No amount of 'jazba' (passion) will save us. India is not accepting what Arab and Iran are trying to convey diplomatically. If America, Russia and China does not make efforts (for de-escalation), the situation will be more difficult in days to come."

How India Is Using Its Military Prowess To Take On Pakistan's Aggression

India has shot down three Pakistani fighter jets as Srinagar came under an air raid on the intervening night of May 9 and 10. The jets were shot down in the outskirts of Srinagar using Akash air defence system.

This comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir on April 22 which killed 26 people including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepalese tourist.

Several Indian cities have also been put on high alert in the wake of an escalating situation with Pakistan.
