US President Donald Trump has warned that those caught sabotaging Tesla cars may face up to 20 years in prison.
In a Truth Social post, the 78-year-old President warned vandals, stating that the government is “looking” for them.
“People that get caught sabotaging Teslas will stand a very good chance of going to jail for up to twenty years, and that includes the funders. WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU,” Trump wrote.
The warning comes as Elon Musk’s Tesla faces widespread protests across the United States, during which Tesla cars and showrooms have been damaged.
In recent weeks, several Tesla vehicles have been vandalized, with angry protesters throwing Molotov cocktails at the company’s dealerships and service centers.
Tesla has been targeted after Elon Musk’s role as DOGE head and his initiatives to slash government spending and fire federal workers.
Unhappy with Musk’s actions, multiple Tesla showrooms and Cybertrucks were set on fire, and a Las Vegas service center was set ablaze at just days ago.
Additionally, Tesla showrooms and charging stations have been attacked in multiple cities across the Pacific Northwest, including Portland, Oregon, and Seattle.
Although no injuries have been reported, the attacks have put law enforcement agencies on high alert.
Reacting to the violence, Musk called it “insane” on X, stating that Tesla does not deserve these attacks.
“This level of violence is insane and deeply wrong,” Musk wrote on X, sharing a video of burning Teslas in Las Vegas. “Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks.”
In another tweet Musk said "Has there ever been such a level of coordinated violence against a peaceful company?"
"I understand not wanting to buy a product, but this is extreme arson and destruction!", he stated.
Anti-Trump and anti-Musk rioters have attacked Tesla vehicles, dealerships, and factories, with at least 10 incidents reported across the United States by March 10.
President Trump’s announcement comes after United States Attorney General Pamela Bondi filed charges against three individuals responsible for the violent destruction of Tesla properties on Thursday.
Bondi stated: “All three accused will face the full force of the law for using Molotov cocktails to set Tesla cars and charging stations on fire.”
Outlining the punishments for the rioters, Attorney General Bondi confirmed they would face a minimum penalty of five years and up to 20 years in prison.
In a statement, Bondi warned: “The days of committing crimes without consequences have ended. Let this be a warning: If you join this wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla properties, the Department of Justice will put you behind bars.”
The US government has vowed to continue its investigation and ensure that all vandals are punished.
