Washington: Tesla dealerships, charging stations, and vehicles have become the target of a series of violent attacks across the United States and even internationally. Incidents of arson, gunfire, and Molotov cocktail attacks have been reported at multiple locations, raising serious concerns about the growing hostility toward the electric vehicle giant.

The timing of these attacks is significant, coinciding with Elon Musk’s deepening ties with US President Donald Trump. With Musk now heading a key government department, Tesla has emerged as a political symbol, attracting both support and backlash. The White House has strongly condemned the violence, terming it an act of “domestic terror” and assuring strict action against those responsible.

Tesla was once widely supported by environmental advocates, benefiting from clean energy policies under the Barack Obama administration. However, Musk’s political leanings have changed over the years. His massive $250 million donation to Trump’s 2024 campaign and his appointment as head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have put him in the spotlight.

The DOGE, set up by Trump to cut federal spending, has triggered protests from various quarters. Critics argue that Musk is using his position to push his own business interests while slashing crucial government programs. As a result, Tesla has become a soft target for those opposing Trump’s policies and Musk’s increasing influence in the government.

Musk and Trump Respond to Attacks

Elon Musk has blamed progressive activists for the attacks but has not provided evidence to support his claims. Meanwhile, President Trump has issued a stern warning, vowing harsh penalties for those involved.

In a Truth Social post, Trump warned that individuals caught sabotaging Tesla vehicles could face up to 20 years in prison, including those who provide financial support for such acts.

“People caught sabotaging Teslas will stand a very good chance of going to jail for up to twenty years, and that includes the funders. WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU,” Trump wrote.
