Orem, Utah: The FBI has publicly released the first photos of an individual considered a person of interest in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Authorities are urging members of the public to provide any information that may aid in identifying the individual, as the search for the shooter responsible for the attack at Utah Valley University intensifies.

Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of the youth conservative organization, Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and a prominent ally of President Donald Trump, was killed on Wednesday during a speaking event attended by thousands of students.

Investigators disclosed on Thursday that the suspected shooter, believed to have fired a single shot from a rooftop position, subsequently jumped down and fled into a nearby residential area. Although a high-powered rifle has been recovered, the identity of the shooter remains unknown.

Despite pursuing numerous leads, the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) stated that the perpetrator has not yet been identified. DPS Commissioner Beau Mason described the person of interest as “appearing to be of college age” and noted the individual’s ability to “blend in well with the campus community.” Two individuals who were initially detained have been released after investigators determined they were not involved.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox addressed the incident on Wednesday, calling it “a dark day for our state” and “a tragic day for our nation.” He stated unequivocally, “I want to be very clear: this is a political assassination.”

Weapon and Engraved Ammunition Recovered Near Campus

Law enforcement officials confirmed the recovery of the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting. FBI representatives announced that a high-powered bolt-action rifle was located in a wooded area adjacent to the university. The weapon, identified as an older .30 caliber hunting model, was found wrapped in a towel. A spent cartridge was discovered in the chamber, and three live rounds remained in the magazine.

A notable aspect of the investigation involves the ammunition itself. Officials reported that the unused bullets were engraved with phrases associated with transgender and antifascist ideologies.

FBI Agent Robert Bohls stated, “We have recovered what we believe is the weapon that was used in yesterday’s shooting… We’re doing everything we can to find him. We’re not sure how far he has gone yet, but we will do our best.”

Reports indicate that Charlie Kirk was in the process of discussing mass shootings involving transgender individuals at the moment he was shot. Federal authorities are actively investigating whether the victim’s on-stage remarks or his political profile may have contributed to the assailant’s motive.
