Glad He's Safe, Says Kamala Harris After Gunshots Fired In Trump's Vicinity
Just after the gunshots were fired at a golf club where the ex-president was playing, Kamala Harris said 'I am glad that he is safe'.
Washington: The campaign chief of former US President Donald Trump on Sunday made shocking revelations claiming that gunshots were fired at a golf club where the ex-president was playing. Just after that US Vice President and Democratic Party's Presidential candidate, Kamala Harris posted on X (Formally Twitter), said she had been "briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida. I am glad that he is safe." Ms Harris said, “Violence has no place in America.”
Gunshots were fired from an AK-47-style rifle in former US President Donald Trump 's vicinity on the grounds of his golf course in Palm Beach Florida, where he was present. The Republican candidate is "safe", his party campaign said.
The US Secret Service, responsible for protecting current and former Presidents, accompanied Mr. Trump as part of standard protocol.
The motive behind the recent shooting remains unclear. However, it comes nearly two months after a failed assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a shooter on a rooftop fired a 5.56mm bullet from an AR-15 style rifle, grazing Mr. Trump’s ear and splattering blood on his face.
The Secret Service admitted its failure to protect the former president during an election rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
"We take full responsibility for the tragic events of July 13th. This was a mission failure. Our primary duty is to ensure the safety of our protectees, and we fell short in Butler. I am committed to preventing such failures in the future," said Ronald Rowe, Acting Director of the US Secret Service.
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are set to face off in the highly anticipated presidential election this November.
The recent incident in Florida follows the first presidential debate between the two candidates, where Ms. Harris was widely considered to have outperformed Mr. Trump.
A CNN flash poll showed a majority of viewers believed Harris won the debate, with 54% of YouGov respondents agreeing, compared to 31% favoring Trump.
