Here's All You Need To Know About The New Deputy Special Representatives Of The United Nations, Ingrid Hayden

Ingrid Hayden of Australia has been appointed as the deputy special representative of the secretary general of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

As per the press release, Guterres announced the appointment of Hayden on September 8, 2018.

Here are some facts about the newly elected Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General:

  1. The Australian Ambassador to Afghanistan has obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Queensland, Australia. 
  2. The diplomat is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia, which is the prime organization of all the chartered accountants operating in the continent.
  3. Before taking up her current appointment, Ms. Hayden had been Acting Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (Political) in Kabul since January 2018. Before that she was based in New York with the Department of Political Affairs as Head of the Afghanistan Desk since 2014, a position she also held from 2003 to 2007.
  4. Hayden worked in some leading accountancy firms in Australia like Price Waterhouse and Coopers Lybrand, News Corporation, to name a few.
  5. Ingrid Hayden, previously, held some prestigious positions in few departments of the United Nations. The departments include Peacekeeping Operations and Political Affairs, Executive Office of the Secretary-General, to name a few. She started her career in the Organization with the Department of Management.
  6. As a part of UN peacekeeping operations, Hayden has worked in several countries like Afghanistan, Cambodia, Central African Republic, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, and Timor-Leste. 
  7. For 27 years, Hayden served as the Deputy Special Representative of UNAMA (United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan).

Ever since the United Nations has been formed in 1945, after the end of the second world war in the same year, Australia is one such country, which has been an active member of the United Nations. 

Ms. Gillian Bird is currently the Ambassador and the permanent representative of Australia to the United Nations. She was appointed in this position in 2015.
