Trypophobia: An anxiety disorder
This type of fear at present is not recognized by the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders but it has been associated with the category of anxiety disorders. According to reports, a few people from the medical fraternity have seen trypophobia as a part of different types of behaviors that come under the category of OCD which is commonly known as obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Dr. Debra Kissen, the director of Light on Anxiety Treatment Center in Chicago, said that there are specific types of textures and patterns that can cause an extreme sense of disgust, anxiety or a weird sensation in the body. This type of reaction after seeing a cluster of holes can have a negative effect on someone's lifestyle. She was also of the opinion that the latest iPhones would not cause trypophobia on a level that other hole patterns would.

A flight or fight response
It has been said that about 16 per cent of the population all over the world suffers from the anxiety disorder that invokes a flight or fight response. Given the overwhelming response that this disease causes, a few people suffering from it start to scratch themselves right when they get uncomfortable after seeing a cluster of holes.
People who are grossed out after looking at holes without any reaction at an extreme level is something that is normal and understandable from a viewpoint of behavioral sciences.
