US President Joe Biden reportedly abused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , calling him a “fuc**** liar” and “son of a b****”, in private conversations regarding military operations in Gaza. This revelation comes from an upcoming book by renowned journalist Bob Woodward, titled “War,” which details the fraught relationship between the two leaders during the spring of 2024.

According to excerpts shared by CNN, Biden's frustrations peaked during an April phone call when he pressed Netanyahu about Israel’s strategy in Rafah, a city along the Gaza-Egypt border that had become a stronghold for Hamas. When Netanyahu insisted that an incursion into Rafah was necessary, Biden responded bluntly, saying, “Bibi, you’ve got no strategy.”

Here is what you need to know

Biden's concerns intensified after Israeli forces launched a limited operation in Rafah in May, which exceeded US expectations. The tensions escalated further following an Israeli airstrike that killed Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah's top military commander, in July. Shukr was a notorious figure implicated in the 1983 bombing of the US Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, which resulted in the deaths of 241 American servicemembers.

After the airstrike, in a phone conversation, Biden confronted Netanyahu, yelling, “What the fuck? You know the perception of Israel around the world increasingly is that you’re a rogue state, a rogue actor.” This outburst highlights the growing rift between the US and Israel, and also raises an important question - should any nation rely on US for its security?

The book also notes that Biden privately referred to Netanyahu as a “bad guy,” expressing frustration over his actions. Despite prior assurances from the White House denying similar sentiments, these remarks reflect a significant strain in US-Israeli relations.

As the situation unfolds, the implications for U.S.-Israel relations remain uncertain, with many observers closely watching how these tensions will impact future diplomatic efforts in the region. The impression amongst many analysts is that the senior Israeli leadership, no longer trusts the US.
