However, according to Mushtaq's brother, who spoke to the media, Ashfaq arrived at the meeting with a gun and shot Mushtaq dead.

"It was a non-issue or a very trivial matter. No one in our family even knew about the dispute at all," Mushtaq’s brother told Arab News.

After the incident, Ashfaq fled the scene, and police are currently in search of him.

The case has raised concerns about the ease of access to firearms in the region and the increasing use of weapons to settle minor online disagreements in the South Asian country.

This incident is part of a disturbing trend of violent crimes arising from online disputes.

The Peshawar case has sparked discussions about the dangerous consequences of seemingly trivial online conflicts, with authorities calling for more attention to the easy availability of firearms and the need for better conflict resolution in the digital age.

Just two months ago, in India’s Thane district in Maharashtra, three men were arrested for assaulting their friend after he refused to change his WhatsApp status as requested by the group admin. The disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving the victim critically injured after being stabbed.
