Pakistan reached out to the UN Security Council with a plea to allow UN-designated terrorist and 26/11 mastermind to access his bank account to cover 'basic living expenses.' Pakistan has persistently masked its backing for terrorism by the pretense of crackdowns and public outcry against New Delhi. However, a move to put forth a solicitation for Specially Designated Global Terrorist, makes Islamabad's stance against terror fall flat on the face.

Putting forward a request for the terrorist and Pakistan citizen, Pakistan in a letter to UN said that Hafiz Saeed needs funds to cover the basic expenses for his 'family of four,' as a 'sole supporter' and its responsible for food, drink and clothes expenses for his family members. Pakistan requested to give an allowance of 1,50,000 Pakistan rupees to the terrorist per month.

"His bank account was blocked by the Government of Pakistan under compliance with UN Security Council resolution 1267, requesting an asset freeze exemption to access frozen funds in the amount of Rs 1.5 lakh (USD 1000 or INR 68,000) to cover the necessary basic living expenses for himself and his family," Pakistan’s request to the UN Security Council panel said.

The request by Pakistan was accepted by the UN Security Council committee. It has permission, Hafiz Saeed, to withdraw around $1,000 to cover the basic necessities for him and his family.

Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan

The Mumbai terror attack mastermind, Hafiz Saeed who has his face on the wanted terrorist poster in India, had his face on election campaign posters in Pakistan. On August 27, PM of Pakistan Imran Khan could be seen sharing the space with Hafiz Saeed in a life-size poster that hung on the streets of Lahore. In 2018 general elections of Pakistan, while Hafiz Saeed did not contest the elections, his founded Jama'at-up-Da'wah (JuD) fielded over 200 candidates for national and assembly seats across Pakistan.

On March 2019, a fearful Pakistan had even blocked a team of UN to interview terrorist Hafiz Saeed, by rejecting their visas. The JuD was declared as a foreign terrorist organisation by the US on June 2014. The JuD chief also carries a USD 10 million American bounties on his head for his role in terror activities.

Hafiz Saeed's sham arrests

A week before Imran Khan's maiden visit to the US, Islamabad made another sham arrest of US-designated terrorist and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, for the 8th time.
