PTI chief Imran Khan leaves Islamabad High Court after being granted security clearance. The ex-PM is being transported in a security cavalcade to his Lahore residence at Zaman Park.

The former prime minister left in the Islamabad deputy inspector general’s (security) vehicle along with state security, reported Dawn.

A few moments earlier, the Islamabad police had tweeted that Islamabad's IG himself was reviewing the security arrangements. 

"Court orders will be fully implemented. Islamabad Police is responsible for Imran Khan's security. Imran Khan's cooperation is essential in this regard. The Supreme Court has entrusted the responsibility of Imran Khan to the Islamabad Police. Road clearance is being taken," added Islamabad Police. 

Khan is reportedly scheduled to address the public from his Lahore residence on Saturday morning (May 13).

Reports have said that Imran Khan was allowed to leave from another exit and not the main doorway.

PTI chief, in a video message to the media and public has alleged that "they" are making excuses and not letting him leave the Islamabad High Court even though he is legally free at the moment. 

He emphasised that it has been three hours and that they "have kidnapped me". 

"It is the bas intention of the people," Imran Khan alleged saying that "the people" wanted to do something again. 

"The whole "kaum" should be ready now. When decisions of courts are not followed, people should raise voice," he added.

Sources say that internet services have been restored in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.

Mobile broadband is also being restored across Pakistan after a three-day closure, media reported, quoting the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority.

"Imran Khan has been surrounded unannounced, his security team has been harassed and attempts have been made to damage the armored vehicle," said a PTI official.

PTI chief Imran Khan's security clearance has been granted and reports state that he is set to depart shortly from the Islamabad High Court towards his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.

A convoy will accompany the ex-PM through the night journey. He is reportedly scheduled to deliver an address tomorrow from his residence.

Lahore is the provincial capital of the eastern province of Punjab and is located 380km (236 miles) south of Islamabad, the federal capital.

Reports have stated that Imran Khan wants to record a video message after the Internet service is restored.

Additionally, Khan will leave the Islamabad High Court soon as security has been cleared as requested by him, sources say.

Islamabad High Court has reported that the capital’s inspector general of police has reached the court and is currently conferring with PTI Chief Imran Khan.

Earlier, PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar had said that police were demanding that Imran “gives them a video message, in which he should take responsibility for exiting the court in these circumstances”.

Speaking to Dawn.com after firing outside the Islamabad High Court, he said this is such a “strange” claim that Imran Khan has been granted such major relief.

“Why would our workers shoot now? Today is a happy day [for us].

“Now they are telling us they cannot let him out because of the security situation,” he added.

Dawn quoted SSP Masood Bangash who told the media outside the court that gunshots were being fired from the direction of Mehrabadi, near the capital’s G-11 sector.

He added that “people are getting close”, without specifying whom.

“You tell us, how can we transport Imran Khan [from the Islamabad High Court] in this situation; we are awaiting security clearance,” Bangash added.

PTI chief Imran Khan appealed to his workers to remain peaceful. He also urged the centre to open the roads to Islamabad so "we can leave" for his Lahore residence.

It has also been reported that Pakistan President Arif Alvi isn’t being allowed to go the court due to security clearance. 

Islamabad police has reported that there was no casualty reported in the recent incident of firing in the capital, near the vicinity of the Islamabad High Court.

It is reported that Imran Khan is currently in the premises of the court awaiting safe passage to Lahore.

Imran Khan’s lawyer received written decision from the court. He will leave for Lahore in a convoy of his workers shortly, sources have said.

PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on Twitter that treating former Prime Minister Imran Khan as a “royal guest” was an “insult to the martyrs and Ghazis of the country”.

"Being the Chief Justice does not mean enslaving the state to a person who has burnt every symbol of national honor and national defense to ashes through his pet thugs," tweeted Sharif.

"Chief Justice! You are no longer the judiciary, the constitution and law have become a threat to the justice system and national security. You have lost your dignity after becoming a facilitator of a terrorist playing with the country's destiny - you are using your chair for Imran's politics so now be prepared for political backlash," she added.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Friday claimed that he was hit on the head with batons as Rangers personnel arrested him in the Al-Qadir Trust case earlier this week.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his gratitude to the judiciary of the country, on behalf of the public, for granting him bail.

While speaking to reporters inside the courtroom today, the PTI Chairman criticised that the “law of the jungle” prevails outside the courts, where “only one man” is making the decisions.

Islamabad police have reminded Pakistan citizens that Section 144 — a provision for restricting public gatherings — remains imposed in the capital and resultantly, “no protest is allowed in the Red Zone”.

The Paksitan federal government has decided to hold grand rallies in solidarity with Pakistan Army across country.

The coalition government has decided to hold a grand sit-in against the Supreme Court decision on ex-Pak PM Imran Khan in front of the court. The federal govt will hold grand rallies across the country in solidarity with Pakistan Army, as per sources.

The meeting of the Pakistan government coalition partners led by PM Shehbaz Sharif reached the conclusion that an emergency would not be declared in the country.

Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took to twitter and updated about former PM's schedule. It wrote, 'Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan will go to Zaman Park Lahore from Islamabad High Court.' Further, it added, 'Workers and supporters will accompany Chairman Imran Khan from Islamabad to Lahore.'

According to the Islamabad police, a total of 493 people have been arrested since May 9 in connection with the protests that broke out after the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Of these, five people have been released due to lack of evidence, while three have been released on bail.

Pakistan Senator Azam Swati has praised the Islamabad High Court's decision to grant bail to former prime minister Imran Khan in a video message.

“I would like to send a message to those few people who think they are greater than the law and Constitution since the past 40 years,” he said. “They think they are kings without crowns, they have destroyed every institution of the country.”

"It is not the security agencies, it is one man, the army chief," said PTI chief Imran Khan while speaking to media.

"Sadly the events that happened when I was inside, I only found out afterwards, army is getting maligned because of just one man," he added.

Former Pakistan ex-PM Imran Khan is still present in the premises of court. Reports suggest that the PTI chief will not leave the court until he gets the court order regarding his protective bail.

As DG NAB General Retired Nazir Butt was removed from the post following his decision to conduct the dramatic arrest of Imran Khan while in court, Pakistan has appointed Director FIA Waqar Ahmed Chohan as the new DG NAB.

DG NAB General Retired Nazir Butt, who led the operation against Imran Khan and proceeded with a dramatic move to arrest the ex-Prime Minister in court, has been removed from his post.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has stated that the ban on internet services will remain in place until all the individuals who were involved in burning down houses are arrested.

In an interview with Geo News, the PML-N leader also mentioned that if the matters related to Imran Khan extend beyond May 17, he would have to seek guidance from the prime minister on the issue.

“There are many people who used these services legally and they are the ones losing out so we have to keep that under surveillance,” Sanaullah added.

“The situation is that the people who have come out, their entire work is done on the internet, all their abuse, their planning, all of it is done on social media.”

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assserted during a speech at federal cabinet, that PTI chief Imran Khan and his party are “liars”. He referred to Khan's what he described as the conspiracy theory that his government is enacting on orders of US to oust him. Sharif said that he has created a National Security Committee to prove PTI's claims wrong.

According to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan fails to obtain bail in all the cases against him, the government may arrest him again.

He made the comments while speaking to Geo News.

“I said it very clearly yesterday that if Imran gets relief in all the cases which are registered against him and gets protective bail, we won’t arrest him. In fact, we will try to get his bail nullified,” he said. “And if he is given bail in some cases and some cases are still left, we will definitely arrest him.”

According to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the leadership of the Imran Khan-led PTI is attempting to drive the country, which is already grappling with numerous challenges, towards destruction.

“The horrible role PTI leadership has played in bringing Pakistan to the brink of destruction, it has become a big question mark for the country,” the PM remarked during a cabinet meeting.

Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former Prime Minister, is facing charges of corruption involving a property tycoon worth billions of rupees.

On May 9, he was arrested from the premises of Islamabad High Court (IHC) in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case while seeking bail in multiple cases ranging from terrorism to money laundering.

Following Khan's arrest, Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah held a press conference and alleged that the PTI chief was arrested for embezzling PKR 60 billion in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.

What is the Al-Qadir Trust Case?

The Al-Qadir Trust case is an ongoing corruption investigation involving Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and other PTI leaders.

The case centers around a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon that reportedly caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.

The charges allege that Khan and other accused adjusted PKR 50 billion, sent by Britain's National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government as part of the agreement with the property tycoon, and received undue benefits in the form of over 458 kanals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, to establish Al Qadir University.

During the PTI government, the UK's National Crime Agency seized assets worth 190 million pounds from the property tycoon, and the settlement with the Pakistani property tycoon was termed "a civil matter, and does not represent a finding of guilt".

However, then Prime Minister Khan approved the settlement with the UK crime agency from his cabinet on December 3, 2019, without disclosing the details of the confidential agreement.

Later, Al-Qadir Trust was established in Islamabad, and PTI leaders Zulfi Bukhari, Babar Awan, Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, and her close friend Farah Khan were appointed as members of the trust.

According to NAB officials, Khan and his wife obtained land worth billions of rupees from the property tycoon in return for striking a deal to give legal cover to the property tycoon's black money received from the UK crime agency.

The inquiry against Imran, Bushra Bibi, Barrister Shahzad Akbar, and a real estate tycoon was converted into an investigation following the emergence of irrefutable evidence in the case.

During the federal cabinet meeting, it was decided that strict action would be taken against those who engaged in "organised terrorism" against the state to set an example for others, reported Dawn.

The meeting attendees also expressed their support for and defended the statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) regarding the protests that occurred following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

After being granted bail for two weeks in a graft case, the Islamabad High Court has instructed authorities to not arrest the former premier till May 17 in any case filed against him after May 9.

At least three new cases were registered against Imran Khan after he was detained in the Al-Qadir Trust case on Tuesday .

Khan’s lawyers had earlier approached the court to grant Khan protective bail in all cases filed.

Security is on high alert in Islamabad High Court as preparations for Imran Khan's return are finalised, reported Pak media. 

Violence has been reported in the Pakistani capital as news of stone bearers and stick bearers burning tires has surfaced. The Islamabad police have arrested 30 people.

A news report by Pakistan-based Dunya News has said that the internet shutdown in the country has cost Digital Pakistan more than 13 billion rupees (PKR).

"Until Imran Khan reaches a safe place, you should continue your peaceful protest. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted Imran Khan protective bail for two weeks in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

Subsequently, the IHC issued an order prohibiting authorities from arresting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman until Wednesday (May 17) in any new case filed after May 9.

Imran Khan had earlier warned of countrywide unrest if he was arrested again, and the protective bail was granted shortly after.

The two-member special division bench, consisting of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, granted the former prime minister 15-day protective bail after he was arrested from the IHC premises on Tuesday.

Ex-Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been granted bail in all cases filed post May 9 by Islamabad High Court bench. 

Islamabad High Court has urged the Pakistan central government to ensure the security of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan and has granted the PTI chief relief from any arrests till May 17.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said relief to the ex-premier of the country "nothing but an NRO" as he warned about the consequences of releasing him. Sharif indicated that everyone will be accountable for whatever consequences emerge from SC's relief to Khan. 

Pakistan cabinet meeting will be held today at 4:30 pm. Some ministers want the emergency to be imposed in the country over the deteriorating security. 

“The attacks on army installations, there can be no greater terrorism in the country,” Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, lambasting the PTI leaders and the protesters for breaching compounds of Army Corps Commander's residences. PTI protesters disrespected the martyrs by such acts that were never even committed by “our enemies," he said during the speech.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the harshest tone yet slammed the SC relief to PTI chief Imran Khan, saying that "if you keep favouring this ladla then you should also release all the dacoits." 

“Let this be free for all,” Pakistan PM asserted. 

Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif said that “no one spoke to Nawaz about injustices suffered by him" as he questioned the relief given by the Supreme Court to the PTI Chairman Imran Khan. “Such double standards have caused the death of justice in Pakistan," Sharif said. The latter was referring to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif who was arrested by Pakistan's anti-graft body in a land-related corruption case.

Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif condemned the violent protests provoked by Imran Khan's party PTI officials. "Such scenes were not witnessed since the fall of Dhaka during 1971, Sharif said. The latter noted that such violence wasn't witnessed even during the death of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Sharif said no one “moved towards military installations” even at that time.

PTI leader Hammad Azhar has claimed that there was another attempt to detain the PTI party chief Imran Khan. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Azhar said: “Imran Khan has given a message that an attempt is being made to arrest him again and he wants the entire country to come out in peaceful protest.”The official also noted that Khan is fighting for the Constitution, democracy and rule of law in the country. He called for more protests saying that people shall “play their role”.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif slammed the PTI leadership saying that they are trying to push the country that is struggling already towards destruction. “As you know the currency is navigating through difficult times, and the challenges we inherited are contributing immensely to aggravating the situation. The previous government violated an agreement with the IMF and we are making attempts to repair that,” he said during the address. 

Imran Khan's lawyer Babar Awan is claiming that there could be another attempt to arrest the PTI chairman. “The Punjab police has especially been called to Islamabad. Why does the government want to arrest Imran Khan?” Khan's lawyer warned that if Punjab police arrests Khan again, it would be “unconstitutional”.

Imran Khan's announcement came as the hearing of his plea in Islamabad High Court got halted for Friday prayers. As per Republic sources, Khan said, whatever happened to him was "not right". "NAB's attitude was not right, I was hit on the head at the time of arrest, how could I stop it in the air? "What happened is not right. This country is mine. The people are mine. I was in the High Court. I was killed. Rangers arrested me. I said this is my country. My people are peaceful. I will not resist arrest," he asserted. "I Said this is my country, My people are peaceful, I will not resist arrest, I have secured bail in all cases they cannont arrest me like this," he added.

As the hearing began in Islamabad Hight Court, Khan's supporters started raising pro-Khan slogans. When Imran Khan was asked various questions, Imran Khan put his finger on his mouth and signaled to remain silent. However, later the slogans continued. The court expressed its discontent over the sloganeering. 

Over 50 people have been arrested from outside the Islamabad High Court. Thousands are outside the court as Imran Khan arrived for his anticipatory bail plea hearing. Khan is now in courtroom No. 2 where the hearing will start shortly.

An emergency meeting has reportedly been conducted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leadership. The leadership as per sources has consulted on the statement of arresting Imran Khan again in false cases of Rana Sanaullah. If he is arrested again in a false case, as per sources, the protest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf will continue in all districts including Islamabad.

Imran Khan has expressed fear of getting arrested again outside the court even if his bail is granted by the Islamabad High Court. Previously, Khan has been granted relief from arrest in court premises. A two-member special division bench is hearing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s bail plea today in Al-Qadir Trust case. 

"We are hopeful that bail will be granted by the High Court," Faisal Hussain Chaudhry, a lawyer for Khan told reporters.

PTI chief Imran Khan's release from custody on Thursday has sparked outrage among leaders of the ruling coalition. According to Dawn, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Khan's release shows that "double standards" exist in the judiciary. “On the other hand, leaders of the ruling coalition had been sent on remand for more than six months for committing no offence,” he said.

“Today the Supreme Court has ensured whether Imran Khan was given proper facilities during detention. But for others, the apex court has not shown such emotions,” he added.

Ahead of Imran Khan's hearing in the Islamabad High Court today, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf exhorted his supporters to come together to "express solidarity" with the PTI chief. "Thousands of peaceful Pakistanis from across the country will gather at Srinagar Highway G-13 Islamabad this morning to express solidarity with Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan. After appearing in the Islamabad High Court, Chairman Imran Khan will address this place," it tweeted.

A day after his release from custody, Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan will be appearing before the Islamabad High Court on the morning of Friday. Yesterday, the Supreme Court declared that his arrest was null and void. "The manner of execution of the arrest warrant issued by the Chairman, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) dated 01.05.2023 in the Al-Qadir Trust case within the premises of the Islamabad High Court against petitioner is invalid and unlawful," it said in its written orders issued on Thursday. 

The United States will continue to monitor the situation in Pakistan, the Biden Administration said on Thursday, maintaining that it does not have a position on one candidate or the other.

"We continue to monitor the situation in Pakistan closely, and as the US has said before, we don’t have a position on one candidate or one political party versus another. What our interest is a safe and secure, prosperous Pakistan. That is in the interest of the US-Pakistan relations, and we call for the respect of democratic principles and the rule of law around the world," State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the PM House in Islamabad on Thursday and discussed the Supreme Court's order on Imran Khan's arrest.
The two leaders discussed the Supreme Court's order declaring PTI Chairman Imran Khan's arrest unlawful and deliberate the future course of action, the Pakistan Muslim League-N said in a tweet. Maulana Fazlur Rahman, head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and Pakistan Democratic Movement, met Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's House. Detailed consultation on the current political situation in the country. The two leaders discussed the Supreme Court's move to declare the arrest of Khan as "null and void". "Maulana Fazlur Rahman, head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and Pakistan Democratic Movement, met Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's House. Detailed consultation on the current political situation in the country," PML-N wrote on Twitter. "Attacks on state institutions and damage to government property by PTI workers were also strongly condemned in the meeting. On Thursday, Islamabad police stated that around 298 people were detained for committing arson acts of violence. "Islamabad police have so far detained 298 people guilty of arson and malicious acts. 16 cases have been registered for arson and damage to private and government property," the police tweeted on Thursday. "More arrests are going on, the law is equal for all and the evil elements will come into action," the police further added.

In an alleged audio call recording leak between PTI chief Imran Khan and party leader Musarrat Javed, Khan can be heard accusing the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court of "taking orders".  "No, but he takes orders from them. Talk to Azam on the other side. You must talk to Azam," Khan stated. "Whether NAB people come or someone else [it doesn't matter]. I am standing right in front of Salman Safdar. I told him to say that produce [Imran] in court. I am sitting next to Khawaja Haris and him. We cannot leave like that. We will remain in court. Where your case is being heard... with the chief justice," Musarrat responded, as per the transcript obtained by The Express Tribune.

Constant internet shutdown amid protests against Khan's arrest in Pakistan has cost the country $53 million in just one day, Dawn reported. Netblocks, an organisation that tracks internet outages across the world, estimates that Pakistan loses over $53 million or Rs9 billion (according to Nov 2021 exchange rate) due to restricted services, data outage and partial application shutdowns in a single day.

Khan PTI party released a statement after the Party Chief, Imran Khan's arrest was declared "Null and Void". "Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf welcomes the decision to declare the arrest process of Chairman Imran Khan illegal," the party wrote on Twitter. "The leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will decide the next political course of action after consultation," PTI further added. 

After Khan's arrest was declared null and void, the Pakistan Supreme Court stated that Khan can not be arrested again on court premises. "Anyone that wants to meet you can meet you in the guest house & your family can stay with you too," Pak CJ told Imran Khan during the hearing.

After the Supreme Court ordered the immediate release of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, the court ordered the PTI chief to appear in the Islamabad High Court at 11:30 am. While Khan was not allowed to go to Bani Gala, Khan will be staying at District Police Lines Islamabad.

PML-N leader and the daughter of former Pakistan Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif lambasted the Pakistani Chief Justice and asked him to join PTI after Khan's release. "The Chief Justice was very happy today to meet the incident of 60 billion of national exchequer and he was even more happy to release this criminal. The Chief Justice is the most responsible for the attacks on the most important and sensitive facilities of the country, he has become the shield of a fitnah and is pouring fuel on the fire in the country. You should leave the post of Chief Justice and join Tehreek-e-Insaf like your mother-in-law," Sharif wrote on Twitter. 

After the supreme court ordered the release of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan, PTI took to Twitter to welcome the news. "The nation of Pakistan welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court which annulled the arrest of Chairman Imran Khan," the party wrote on Twitter. 

During the hearing, Khan apologies to Pakistan Supreme Court for the mayhem that erupted following his arrest. " I wasn’t aware of anything. I was arrested," Khan stated. "I said to show the warrant and they arrest me, how am I responsible for what happened, how can a party that wants elections create chaos," he added. Khan insisted that he wants "election and not anarchy". 

Following the release of Imran Khan, the Pakistan Supreme Court summoned the ISI DG. The court has also allowed Khan to meet his family following his release.

Ahead of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's court appearance, reports are emerging that Islamabad IG has called for an emergency meeting to tackle any sort of ruckus. Earlier today, PTI workers insisted that protestors should not approach the Supreme Court where Khan's bail petition is being heard. 

On Thursday, the United Nations called on Pakistani political parties to refrain from violence as a riot-like situation engulfs the country. “The secretary-general takes note of the ongoing protests that have erupted following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan yesterday in Islamabad and calls for all parties to refrain from violence. He stresses the need to respect the right to peaceful assembly,” said a statement by Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, The Express Tribune reported. “The secretary-general urges the authorities to respect due process and the rule of law in proceedings brought against former Prime Minister Khan,” the statement further added. 

Pakistan’s capital markets made headlines on Thursday as the country’s domestic currency, the rupee, plummeted to a new all-time low beyond Rs 300 against the US dollar, as per The Spectator Index.

In the ongoing bail petition hearing, the Pakistan Supreme Court ordered the PTI chief to be presented in one hour. During the court hearing, the court posed multiple questions to the NAB authorities and security officials. "Why NAB has not written to the Punjab government?" Justice Athar Minullah stated in the hearing. "NAB has done a lot of damage to Pakistan," he further added.

Pakistan Supreme Court commenced the hearing on Imran Khan's bail application. As per the report, the court questioned NAB that 'why they took the law into their hands". The court also stated that 90-100 people barging inside the court was disrespectful and made it clear that the former PM was not given appropriate time.

Following the arrest of the former Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PTI claimed that the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid was placed under house arrest in Islamabad. "Another gruesome move by the mafia setup Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid was placed under house arrest in Islamabad What message does the mafia imposed on the country want to convey at the global level? Amid the political turmoil that has grappled Pakistan following the arrest of former Pakistani Prime Minster Imran Khan, the country's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari made it clear that he is not in favour of banning any political party. During a press conference on Thursday, the son of the former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto stated that the PTI (Khan's party) should "act like" a political party and not transform into a group that "supports terrorism". "This would help prevent any need for the party to be banned," Zardari exclaimed. Following the arrest of the cricketer-turned-politician, his party workers conducted several demonstrations across the country. Some of these protests turned violent causing a state of chaos in the country.

Pakistan Supreme Court will hear the plea by Imran Khan against his arrest in the Al-Qadir case today. According to reports, a three-judge bench will hear the plea at 2 pm today (May 11).

A top IT body in Pakistan has called on the government to restore the internet services in the country that were suspended in the wake of violent protests erupting after the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan. People in Pakistan have resorted to using various VPN services after the interior ministry directed the Pakistan Telecom Authority to suspend internet services and also some social media platforms on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA), the sole representative body of IT and IT-enabled services in Pakistan, criticised the government’s decision to suspend all internet services, per PTI report.

Pakistan's Punjab police have booked former prime minister Imran Khan and 1,500 of his party workers for attacking and setting on fire a top army officer's house in Lahore.

Enraged over the arrest of their leader in a corruption case on Tuesday, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief's supporters on Wednesday stormed the General Headquarters of the Army. They set residence of the Lahore Corps Commander on fire while attacking military vehicles and installations.

The PTI chairman, his deputy Shah Mahmood Qureshi and others have been named under murder, terrorism and 20 other heinous offences for attacking the Corps Commander House known as 'Jinnah House' in Lahore Cantonment on Tuesday, per PTI report.

During his tenure as Pakistan PM, Imran Khan had promised to develop a project that was supposed to offer quality education in Jhelum, Punjab. The project had a number of members who were Khan's closest, including his wife, Bushra Bibi, Zulfiqar Bukhari, and Babar Awan. Al-Qadir University Project Trust was created to carry out the project work, and Bibi, Bukhari, and Awan were named as office bearers.

As a part of the project, a deal was signed between Khan's government and a property tycoon, which saw a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer. According to media reports, the accused allegedly adjusted Rs 50 billion—190 million pounds at the time — sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government. Also, many leaders of the PTI party were accused of misusing the resources in the form of more than 458 crores of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, to establish Al Qadir University.

At least eight people were killed, and up to 290 were injured in ongoing clashes with law enforcement officers across Pakistan following the arrest of the country's former prime minister Imran Khan, Dawn reported today. 

The conflicts culminated in the arrest of nearly 1,900 demonstrators and the destruction of various government buildings, including police stations.

This comes after an accountability court in Islamabad gave NAB custody of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan for eight days in connection with the Al Qadir Trust case on Wednesday, per ANI report.

Pakistan’s government called out the military Wednesday in areas roiled by deadly violence following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was dragged from a courtroom and ordered held for another eight days on new corruption charges that outraged his supporters and deepened the country’s political turmoil.

In an address to the nation, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the unrest by Khan’s supporters “damaged sensitive public and private property,” forcing him to deploy the military in the capital of Islamabad, the most populous province of Punjab and in volatile regions of the northwest.

After Khan was arrested Tuesday, crowds in Islamabad and other major cities blocked roads, clashed with police, and set fire to police checkpoints and military facilities in violence that left six people dead and hundreds arrested. On Wednesday, protesters stormed a radio station in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

“Such scenes were never seen by the people of Pakistan,” Sharif said, following a Cabinet meeting. “Even patients were taken out of ambulances and ambulances were set on fire.”

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif slammed the PTI supporters for torching vehicles, buildings, and arson across the country. Federal ministers have logged cases against political opponents during the PTI tenure, he reminded, adding that former premier Imran Khan "used to predict arrests" and that he is detained legally by the law machinery of Pakistani. Sharif called Khan the enemy of democracy. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party supporters have attacked key state buildings, set fire to infrastructure, and damaged private and public vehicles. 

“Not only political opponents but family and relatives were not forgiven too,” Shehbaz said.

Shehbaz also stressed that “all evidence” is on place that point to the legality of the AL-Qadir Trust case against PTI Chairman Imran Khan. National Accountability Bureau conducted investigation based on those evidence, he maintained. The latter stated that the PTI cabinet was kept “completely in the dark."  “How could it be the decision of the cabinet when the matter is of Rs60 billion of the national treasury?” asked Pakistan's sitting premier. 

Sharif continued, “terrorists and elements who are enemies of the state” shall refrain from “anti-state activities”, or else they would be “given an exemplary punishment.”

“Protection of the state and ideology of Pakistan is more precious to us than our lives and we will not allow anyone to conspire against it. Nor will we let their nefarious designs be accomplished," Sharif said. 

DIG Quetta Azfar Mahesar has reportedly said that at least 60 political workers have been arrested in Quetta and other areas following violent protests linked to former premier and PTI chairman Imran Khan. Thus far, 35 protesters sustained injuries and nearly 31 police personnel including SP CTD, DSP Cantt, and four other SHOs were injured. A case was registered against all 60 detainees.

Army troops have been called in across many states in Pakistan to restore law and order. They reached the Zero Point flyover in Islamabad. Pakistan's interior ministry had authorised the requisition of the military to contain the incidences of violence and unrest earlier today. Article 245 has also been invoked as military been deployed in KP, Punjab and Islamabad to aid Civil Government in maintaining calm.

Imran Khan's PTI party lashed out at law enforcement on Wednesday saying there is "heavy shelling, water cannons being used outside Services hospital towards protesters in Lahore right now." Further they said, police is "literally attacking their own citizens right now, incredibly disgusting." 

Senior member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday brandished the order copy from the Islamabad High Court to the police, maintaining that he cannot be arrested in any case till May 12.

PTI is accusing the police of using tear gas, shelling and firing water cannons at the protesters outside the party’s office on Lahore’s Jail Road. 

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has started addressing the nation. The premier condemned the ongoing violence in Pakistan and slammed Imran Khan of provcation. "The law is supreme," Sharif asserted. The latter noted that Pakistan’s political history had been “very bitter” and that there have never been revengeful acts in politics, neither they rendered good results.

In a blatant warning during a press conference,  Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab, where section 144 was imposed, asserted that those attacking the police officials will be booked under terrorism cases. Several PTI protesters are being registered who attacked the police officers in Karachi, the minister noted.  Wahab derided the citizens running amock, vandalising state property, setting ablaze police vans and charring the empty Rangers outpost.

“The people of Karachi have put an end to the politics of bullying, now there is no room for the politics of fear, many people have been arrested and many more will be arrested,” he said at a press conference.

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has surfaced amid reports of his detention, saying that he has "not been arrested as yet." Qureshi, however, noted that he is vigilant and that people must be cautious about disinformation.

 "However be warned! Every kind of strategy is in place to spread disinformation, create chaos, panic and terror, to try and break the spirit of our party and supporters. Let me warn you, this is a huge mistake. The people of Pakistan will NOT sit in their homes. No fear! PROTEST!," he said.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Azhar Mashwani announced a change of the mass protests venue in Lahore to Jail Road, near Landmark Plaza. The decision came as the “police and the Rangers have blocked all roads [around] Liberty Chowk”.

Education institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been ordered to close “until further orders” in view of the violent situation across the country, the province’s education department was reported as saying.

As many as 12 police personnel in Pakistan have been injured in the gun firing in Peshawar, DawnNewsTV is reporting. A constable, identified as Hakim Khan, had sustained a bullet injury. The shots were reportedly fired by the angry demonstrators, the Islamabad police confirmed. "Firing on the police by the demonstrators. Constable Hakim Khan was injured by a bullet," the police department said. 

"Protesters have been repelled by police lines. All the personnel have been instructed that no legal action should be avoided if anyone tries to advance towards the police lines. Those moving towards the police lines will be dealt with vigorously," the Islamabad police said in a warning online.

MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar has derided the increasing violence wreaked by the PTI protesters across Pakistan. Speaking at. a news conference, he said “Cases against political leaders and workers are nothing new but the reaction to it, this is a new change in politics… Imran Khan has become untouchable," according to Dawn newspaper. 

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has not been detained, PTI leader Shireen Mazari was quoted as saying to Islamabad-based newspaper The Dawn. Reports emerged earlier that jailed ex-leader Imran Khan's close aide and former Foreign Minister of Pakistan Qureshi was arrested. Mazari made conflicting claims that Qureshi was not detained. 

Scenes of total disarray of law and order were witnessed on Wednesday in neighbouring Pakistan as protesters opened fire on the police forces in an act of defiance to the law enforcement and military. Violence has gripped the East Asian country after cricketer turned politician Khan was detained by the paramilitary forces on Tuesday.

PTI leader Shireen Mazari is claiming that a raid is underway at Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence in Lahore with “heavy shelling going on right now”. Imran’s wife Bushra Bibi was present at the house with staff, she added. 

“What purpose does such an attack serve beyond pure harassment and terrorisation of Khan’s wife,” Mazari tweeted.

International Human Rights Foundation on Wednesday condemned the use of military coercion and force against Pakistani citizens. "Using military violence against your fellow citizens just because the elections are close and you know you are going to lose is an act of treason, a violation of human rights and an insult to the public institutions of your own country," the International Human Rights Foundation wrote in a tweet.

Reports are emerging that there might be a declaration of emergency across Pakistan as the country struggles to control the escalating violence and unrest following the arrest of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Police in Pakistan have raided the PTI's Jail Road office in Lahore and have detained several people. 

Ex-British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn on Wednesday spoke against the arrest of the former Pakistan leader Imran Khan. "It's a dark day for democracy," Corbyn wrote on Twitter.  “Solidarity with protestors in Pakistan and beyond demanding his immediate release,” he added.

As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman (PTI) supporters continue protests, demanding the release of the PTI chief Imran Khan, the Army has been called in Islamabad, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over “prevailing law and order situation." The decision to mobilize troops in these provinces came as at least four lives were lost to violence and their bodies were sent to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in Peshawar, the capital of the northwestern province of KP. Dozens with injuries from riots were also rushed to the hospital. The sindh government has imposed Section 144. 

Section 144 has been imposed in Sindh due to violence and unrest wreaked by the PTI activists and Imran Khan's supporters after his arrest.

An accountability court has sent ex-Pakistan premier Imran Khan on an eight-day physical remand to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust case. This came as a sessions court in Islamabad indicted Khan in connection to Toshakhana Case. PTI chief was taken for a hearing to Islamabad Police Lines, and was given a status of a court as a “one-time dispensation," Pakistan-based media is reporting. 

PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been arrested by the Islamabad police. Qureshi had expressed shock at the Army deployment in Punjab in a video message.  “When the Supreme Court had sought security personnel for election duty, it was told that the deployment was not possible because of the country’s internal security situation,” he said.  “How are they now deploying the army?” Qureshi had questioned. The visuals were released shortly after the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government wrote to the Pakistan federal government seeking the requisition of military in the province. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf general secretary Asad Umar was also arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court on Wednesday. Umar was arrested by the anti-terrorist squad of the Islamabad police, Geo News reported.

The Pakistani rupee has plunged further by 1.3 percent and has slumped to a record low of 288.5 against the US dollar. The currency of Pakistan has depreciated following the arrest of the country's former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistan’s international bonds, as per reports, have dropped lower with the 2024 issue down 0.4 cents on the dollar, the Tradeweb data suggests. Just recently, for the first time in 75 years, cash-strapped Pakistan had to surrender its Hajj quota to Saudi Arabia due to the worst economic crisis and financial crunch.

There is an increasing chance that Pakistan could default on its debt, which could worsen the political crisis that has gripped the neighbouring country. While there is skyrocketing inflation, the political conflict between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has barrelled the country into an upheaval. The economic turmoil is exacerbated by the derailment of the $6.5 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) program Pakistan entered in 2019.

As the law and order situation in Pakistan spirals out of control, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry has urged party supporters to "remain peaceful." He noted that there were efforts underway to declare the PTI party as "violent." 

“I want to tell our workers to keep the protests peaceful and defeat the conspiracy to bring the army and public face to face,” he tweeted.

“This country is ours and so is the army,” he added.

Protesters have set ablaze the Associated Press of Pakistan office which was located inside the Radio Pakistan building. Islamabad police is also claiming that PTI protesters in the capital are hurling petrol bombs and pelting stones at law enforcement officers. Even the trees are being set ob fire, the Islamabad police said in a post.

Ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan is indicted in the Toshakhana case. A district and sessions court located in the federal capital had earlier granted the request of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to be excused from appearing in person for the Toshakhana case that alleges that the former Premier accepted millions in gifts received over his tenure.

Khan had submitted a plea for exemption and requested that the proceedings be postponed until May 5th. His legal counsel was unable to present arguments due to prior commitments in the Supreme Court (SC).

Khan, 70, the chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been in the crosshairs for buying gifts, including an expensive Graff wristwatch he had received as the premier at a discounted price from the state depository called Toshakhana, and selling them for profit.

The 70-year-old main opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the corruption case pursued by Pakistan's anti-corruption body National Accountability Bureau (NAB). It has requested the court for a 14-day physical remand of the ex-PM. 

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan had said that Khan "did not appear despite the notices, NAB has arrested him for damaging the national treasury." 

What is the Toshakhana case?

The Toshakhana controversy came to the forefront when in August 2022, the coalition government — led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) — filed a case against Imran, claiming that he didn’t disclose information on gifts presented to Toshakhana and the proceeds from the “illegal” sale of some the gifts.

Established in 1974, Toshakhana is a department under the administrative control of the Cabinet Division which stores gifts and other expensive items received by public officials. According to its rules, it’s compulsory for officials to report the gifts and other such materials received by them to the Cabinet Division. However, when Imran came to power in 2018, he resisted disclosing details of the many presents he received during his time in office, saying that doing so would severely impact relations with other countries. The former prime minister of Pakistan wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and admitted to selling at least four such presents but also said that he bought them from the government by paying a percentage of their value. Violence has escalated in Pakistan as the enraged supporters of PTI are confronting the police, the latter fired live ammunition in Bacha Khan Chowk, Peshawar. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was reported saying that internet services across Pakistan will remain suspended for an indefinite period, Geo.tv reported. The telecommunication authority noted that the blockade of the mobile broadband services was executed on the directives of Pakistan's Ministry of Interior.

PTI Leader Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday derided the arbitrary detention of Imran Khan, saying "The way he was arrested yesterday, I want to tell the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court that tomorrow they will also take you from your chamber in Islamabad High Court and you will not be able to do anything." He claimed that Khan was detained for "creating a free university for the poor, and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza were declared innocent in money laundering of 24 billion." 

"The biggest crime of Imran Khan is that he is the biggest Philanthropist of Pakistan, who gave top-class hospitals, and universities to Pakistan," asserted Chaudhary.

PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in a video message, questioned the deployment of the Army in Punjab, expressing shock. His remarks came as the Pakistan Army approved sending troops to Punjab.

“When the Supreme Court had sought security personnel for election duty, it was told that the deployment was not possible because of the country’s internal security situation,” he said in a video message on Twitter.

“How are they now deploying the army?” Qureshi asked.

In Pakistan's Islamabad, PTI supporters and police had a confrontation over Imran Khan's arrest as the law and order situation worsened across several Pakistani cities. Heavy shelling was reported in Zaman Park at Imran Khan's residence in Lahore. Director general of Radio Pakistan also noted that protesters have set fire to the state media’s building in Peshawar. PTI supporters also reportedly attacked the Shadman Police Station in Lahore. They breached the entrance gate and damaged the property on the premises, according to the police's statement cited by Islamabad-based reports.

Speaking at a press conference, Pakistan's Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal asserted that ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan "is not a victim of political vendetta but rather was being held accountable for his corruption." He slammed the PTI supporters for the arson and violence, and destruction of the state property. He noted that the PTI activists were setting the schools ablaze, and that such acts were "shocking." 

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has written a letter to the federal government as it sought the requisition of deploying the Pakistani armed forces in the province, Dawn is reporting. KP government requested the troop deployment in the province in view of the “prevailing law and order situation, the safety of life and property of citizens as well as security of government installations," the document cited by the Pakistan-based media stated. The interior ministry of Pakistan had earlier approved the deployment of armed troops in Punjab.

Imran Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaf party is holding an emergency meeting at 3:30 in Islamabad.  The meeting will be chaired by Shah Mehmood Qureshi The future plan will be decided against the current political situation of the country and the roundup of Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders. Shah Mehmood Qureshi summoned meet of the seven-member committee to review the situation and devise a comprehensive strategy to secure the safe and early release of the party chair.

Qureshi discussed with the committee members Senators Saifullah Khan Nyazee, Azam Swati, Ijaz Chaudhry, Murad Saeed, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, and Hassan Niazi about next steps the party will take after their Chief Imran Khan is apprehended. 

"PTI will challenge the IHC's decision to term party chief Imran Khan’s arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) 'legal' before the Supreme Court today (Wednesday)," he was quoted as saying in a PTI report. 

Ex-Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has told the accountability judge that NAB officials "didn’t show him warrants" at the time of his detention, Pakistan based Geo News is reporting. Khan was presented in an Islamabad court for the hearing of Al-Qadir Trust case for which he was arrested on Tuesday by the paramilitary forces. Prosecutor of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) have requested the court for a 14-day physical remand of the ex-PM, it is learnt. This decision was widely opposed by his lawyers.

Khan’s legal team noted that the 70-year-old was coerced into the van from the premises of the Islamabad High Court. And this shall be looked into legally.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the ex-Foreign Minister of Pakistan on Wednesday released a video message demanding the release of ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan. He appealed to PTI supporters to gather in a huge turnout and protest to secure the release of Khan. Qureshi claimed that he tried to meet Khan but that he was not permitted. "We filed a petition in the high court but now we will go to the Supreme Court," he said.

Former Pakistan Prime Minster Imran Khan has approached the Supreme Court against his detention at the Islamabad High Court by the country's Paramilitary Rangers. According to the document obtained by Republic, Khan requested to annul the decision of the Islamabad High Court declaring his arrest as valid.

In a major relief for Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza, the National Accountability Bureau has declared the father-son duo was “innocent” in a money laundering case after it conducted a re-investigation, a media report said on Wednesday. The case was filed by the anti-corruption agency in 2020, which alleged that Shehbaz and his family members were involved in money laundering and illegal transfer of funds through fake accounts.

The supplementary report was submitted to the accountability court and presented during the hearing conducted by Accountability Court judge Qamar-ul-Zaman, Samaa TV reported on its website.

After Pakistan's Interior ministry requested help from the Army to maintain law and order across burning cities of Pakistan where Imran Khan supporters are rioting, the army agreed to deploy troops in eastern province of Punjab. An order released by the Pakistan's interior ministry states that the Pakistan army was ordered to discharge duties as per constitution. They "authorised the deployment of Pakistan army troops/assets for maintaining law and order situation across the Punjab province in aid of civil power." Pakistan's provincial government will decide the deployment areas and timing. 

“The date of de-requisitioning of said deployment will be decided subsequently after mutual consultation among stakeholders,” it added.

Punjab police has arrested an estimated 1,000 people after the recent incidences of violence across several incidences of violence. Cops have detained nearly 945 lawbreakers and miscreants, sources told agencies. The outbreak of violence occurred as the former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was detained by 130 officers.

At the briefing on Wednesday, the Pakistan government said that Imran Khan is creating "chaos in the country." Terming the ongoing violence in the country as "anti-state," the government said that it is "not acceptable at all" and "all those involved in this crime will be investigated."

"These were targetted demonstrations planned by Imran Khan. The violence by no means shows that it is public outrage. This was an organised attack on government buildings and infrastructure."

During the briefing on Wednesday, the Pakistan government hit out at Imran Khan and the PTI chief as thousands marched on the streets to demand his release from custody. 

Referring to the money laundering case, the government said: "160 million pounds that were confiscated in money laundering, he returned the money. It is 60 billion rupees of Pakistan's people. He allowed that money to be paid back to the person who was found guilty." 

Justifying the arrest, the spokesperson said: "If such a case happens in the West, what will their government do? Won't the agencies investigate?"

"He even threatened a lady judge. Imran Khan took advantage of the gracious behaviour of the government. He has stooped too low by burning schools. He is on a path of creating chaos in the country," the spokesperson added. 

Proceedings in Imran Khan's Al-Qadir Trust case commenced at an undisclosed location where the former PM is in custody. According to Geo News, he was produced in the court of Judge Muhammad Bashir. 

Pakistan's government accused ex-PM Imran Khan of "spreading anarchy" in the country as the "worst fascism" continues to be shown. "He himself said that if there will be a case against him he will voluntarily be produced in the court. This move by Imran Khan is highly unethical, undemocratic and fascist," the government's spokesperson said.

"If he is innocent then he should prove it before the court, and not by creating ruckus and chaos in the country," the spokesperson added.

The Pakistan government said during the briefing that attacks on public buildings and violence on the streets will not be tolerated at any cost.

Senior PTI member Asad Umar was taken under arrest on Wednesday outside the Islamabad High Court. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf called it an "aduction" and said that the "law of the jungle" is controlling the country.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) declared on Wednesday that internet or broadband services will remain suspended across the nation. The authority did not provide a tentative date as to when the suspension will be lifted.

As violence and disarray intensify in Pakistan over the arrest of Imran Khan, People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and asserted that democracy "lies in tatters" in the country. About 200 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers were apprehended by law enforcement officials in the city of Rawalpindi during a protest against Imran Khan's arrest. 

Those arrested were taken to various police stations in the city as the formation of special teams was underway to take more workers in custody.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the former foreign minister of Pakistan and PTI vice chairman, took to Twitter to ask why the party's chief Imran Khan is being denied legal assistance.

Yaser Buttar, a Pakistani living in the United States, staged a hunger strike outside the White House in Washington DC and called for Imran Khan's immediate release.

After PTI chief Imran Khan's legal team was denied permission to meet him before today's hearing, the party took to Twitter and denounced the situation. "PTI Chairman @ImranKhanPTI has been denied his fundamental rights. First they abducted him, now his legal team is not being allowed to see him. The legal team of PTI Chairman Imran Khan was not allowed to meet him ahead of the hearing on the Al-Qadir Trust case scheduled for today. “We were stopped from meeting our client,” Babar Awan, a member of the team, told Geo News. Khan's lawyers aim to challenge his arrest in the Supreme Court today. 

Pakistan's ex-PM Imran Khan, who was dragged from Islamabad High Court and apprehended on Tuesday, is likely to remain in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for “four to five days," a source of the anti-graft agency told Dawn. “We will do our best to keep him under custody for at least four to five days,” the anonymous source said.

Anti-graft watchdog National Accountability Bureau (NAB) said that Imran Khan was detained “in a comfortable atmosphere” and will not face any harsh treatment. Justifying his arrest, it said: “NAB arrested former prime minister Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The case relates to illegal acquisition of land and construction for Al-Qadir University involving unlawful benefit given in recovery of prime proceeds (190 million pounds) through National Crime Agency, UK. Amid widespread chaos and protests in Pakistan, erstwhile PM Imran Khan will no longer be taken to the Islamabad court on Wednesday. Instead, his hearing slated for today will be held at the location where he remains in custody. 

In the midst of the raging protest against the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, PTI claimed that one of the protesters was shot in a "peaceful" protest in Faisalabad. The party also stated that the protester died on the spot. "A peaceful protest on the Faisalabad D-type bridge was directly hit by a police bullet on his head, causing him to die on the spot #ReleaseImranKhan," PTI wrote on Twitter.

After the arrest of PTI Chief Imran Khan caused mayhem across the country, the US embassy in Islamabad issued a security alert over the issue. "The U.S. Embassy is monitoring earlier reports of clashes between demonstrators and police in Islamabad and also sporadic demonstrations underway or being planned elsewhere throughout Pakistan.  Because of potential traffic disruptions and restrictions, U.S. Embassy Islamabad has cancelled all consular appointments for tomorrow, May 10, 2023," the embassy wrote in a statement. The consulate urged the US nationals in the country to take the following actions.

• Exercise heightened vigilance and avoid locations with large crowds.
• Review your personal security plans.
• Carry identification and follow requests from law enforcement.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Monitor local media for updates.

After the former Pakistan Prime Minister was arrested in the  Al-Qadir Trust case, it becomes important to know what the case is about.  The PTI chief, along with his wife Bushra Bibi and other PTI leaders, is facing a NAB inquiry related to a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon, which reportedly caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.

As per the charges, Khan and other accused allegedly adjusted Rs50 billion — 190 million pounds at the time — sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.

They are also accused of getting undue benefit in the form of over 458 canals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, to establish Al Qadir University.

As the protest against the former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan rages on, reports are emerging that 13 people were left injured due to gunshots that were fired it the Faisalabad protest. Khan's party PTI shared video of an injured civilian getting rushed to the hospital.

Amid the mayhem that has erupted following the arrest of the former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, reports are emerging that the Islamabad High Court has reserved order on the legality of Khan's arrest, Geo TV reported. On Tuesday, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was arrested by Pakistan Rangers from Islamabad High Court. The rangers were acting on orders of the  National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Khan was arrested as part of the NAB’s investigation in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The arrest occurred after Khan reached the Islamabad High Court to seek bail against the multiple FIRs filed against him.

Hours after the arrest of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan,  a NAB official stated that the PTI chief will be produced in court tomorrow for physical remand.The medical report will also be submitted in the court tomorrow, the official asserted.

PTI Vice Chairman Mahmood Qureshi shared a video message following the arrest of former Pak PM Imran Khan. In the video message, Qureshi called the arrest of the former premier "illegal". Following the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan, Pakistani Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah gave out details of Khan's arrest. During a press conference, Sanaullah denied allegations posed by PTI leaders that Khan was arrested. “The arrest has been conducted by the National Accountability Bureau for causing losses to the national treasury,” he said.

Hours after the arrest of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Medical Board of Polyclinic reached the NAB office. The news came after PTI leaders claimed that Khan was assaulted by Pak Rangers. The medical board headed by Dr Faridullah will conduct a detailed examination of Imran Khan. As per the report, the board includes doctors from the cardiology, ortho and medical departments.

Just minutes after Khan was arrested a video of the former Pakistani Prime Minister emerged online in which he was talking about his arrest. “My fellow Pakistanis, by the time this video will reach you, I would have gotten arrested under an illegitimate case,” The PTI chief stated in the video. “One thing should be clear, the Fundamental Rights in Pakistan have been diminished. It is also possible, that after this, I won’t get a chance to meet you all,” he added.  In the video, Khan reiterated that the arrest is being conducted because the “corrupt” Pakistani administration wants to stop him from his mission. 

In the video Khan also called the current ruling government an “Imported” administration. “I appeal to everyone to come out for your freedom,” Khan asserted. “No country gets independence served on a platter, one has to work hard to get the freedom,” He concluded. According to Geo TV, NAB issued an arrest warrant against Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 1. As per the report by the Pakistani news outlet, Khan was taken into custody under Section 9A of the National Accountability Ordinance 1999.

Pakistan Rangers personnel tortured Imran Khan, claimed Barrister Gohar, a lawyer. He was a Rangers officer who arrested Imran Khan.He stated that Imran Khan was hit on the head and leg and his wheelchair was thrown there.

Following the arrest of Imran Khan, reports are emerging that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) issued the arrest warrant on May 1. Khan was arrested when he had gone to court to seek bail in multiple FIRs registered against him. Confirming the arrest, Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan said that the situation is under control, GEO TV reported.
