A small aircraft crashed at London Southend Airport around 4 PM local time, triggering a swift emergency response and halting scheduled operations.
Visuals circulating on social media showed a towering plume of smoke rising into the sky following the crash, leaving bystanders visibly shocked.
The Essex Police confirmed the incident in a statement, saying: “We were alerted shortly before 4 PM to reports of a collision involving one 12-metre plane… We are working with all emergency services at the scene now and that work will be ongoing for several hours.”
At this time, there is no official confirmation regarding the number of individuals on board or whether there have been any injuries or casualties. Emergency services remain on-site as investigations continue.

David Burton-Sampson, the Member of Parliament for Southend West and Leigh, addressed the situation on social media, urging the public to avoid the area. “I am aware of an incident at Southend Airport. Please keep away and allow the emergency services to do their work,” he wrote. “My thoughts are with everyone involved.”
According to the airport’s official website, at least four outgoing flights have been cancelled following the crash. Authorities are expected to release further details as the situation develops.
