A video clip dating back to 1994, featuring American journalists- Bryant Gumbel, Katie Couric, and Elizabeth Vargas has gone viral for reasons that may seem alien now. The video with a length of 1 minute and 28 seconds shows the three journalists discussing as to what the Internet was all about or in simple words, what it actually meant.

What is the internet, anyway?

At the beginning of the video, Bryant can be seen asking his peers as to what the "@" sign meant, struggling to describe it. Further, Elizabeth called it 'at' and in a response to that, Gumbel agreed by saying that he thought the exact same thing.

Bryant Gumbel said that he had never heard the sign being pronounced out loud and felt stupid when he said violence at NBC. He then popped a question by asking what the internet meant and was met with a response that it was a very big computer network and it was used to communicate with NBC writers and producers.

Towards the end of the video, someone not in the frame can be seen telling the three journalists that it was a computer billboard that people could access and something that was getting bigger day by day. Also, Vargas stated that it came in really handy to communicate with family and friends during an earthquake when all the phone lines were down. The video clip ended with Katie asking if the internet needed phone lines to be accessed and Elizabeth telling her no it doesn't.
