Russian Popeye undergoes surgery to remove three litres of jelly from arms

'Russia's Popeye' bodybuilder Tereshin has undergone surgery to remove 3 litres of jelly-like substance from his arms after he was warned it could be fatal

A Russian bodybuilder Kirill Tereshin, 23, has undergone surgery to remove three litres of jelly-like substance from his arms following warnings that he would die if they weren't removed. It has been reported that Tereshin injected three litres of a strange substance called synthol into his arms in a bid to give himself large biceps. However, it was later revealed that the substance he'd injected was three litres of a Vaseline-like jelly substance.

Recommended to undergo surgery for removal of the substance

The bodybuilder was recommended to undergo urgent surgery by Alana Mamaeva, a leading campaigner for victims of plastic surgery. The 32-year-old woman released a video in which she can be seen calling him by his nickname Bazooka and said that his artificial muscles are horrible compared to his slim body. The campaigner raised funds for his surgery and attended it. She also said that they all are going to try and help the young man.

Petroleum jelly saturates the muscles under skin tissues and the skin itself: Surgeon 

Surgeon Dmitry Melnikov who performed the surgery said that for now, he has removed the damaged tissues from one arm only. He added that petroleum jelly saturates the muscles under skin tissues and the skin itself. He said that petroleum jelly is not meant for injection but is only designed for external application. Tereshin injected about 3 litres into each arm which resulted in saturating the tissues and blocked the blood flow. The doctor said that they have removed all those and the patient had a high fever, strong pain, and weakness. Melnikov added that it is not a rare case and said that many people inject petroleum jelly and gets disfigured. He warned injection of petroleum jelly is extremely dangerous and is hazardous for the body which results in leaving huge scars and without proper medical attention it may even lead to death.
