A Twitter handle named 'soviet soldiers dancing' is presenting the history with a new angle by mashing up old footage from Soviet Russia with contemporary pop songs. The result is hilarious. This dark memory has been shown in a positive light in the Twitter videos.

History of Soviet Dancing

The account posts edited videos and clips of soldiers in the USSR dancing or performing at the height of the former regime. Soviet choir singers and dancers were a highlight of the cultural heritage of the USSR that tried to create a strong national identity by removing "Western" influences from its mainstream culture. Yet after globalization, influence of the West can no longer be resisted, as is evident by the fate of some of the videos originating from the time. There were two major categories of Soviet dances, as per accounts. The first was Soviet ballroom dance in which competitions in were held in three dance categories: Standard dances, Latin dances, and Soviet dances. The second category is the Alexandrov Ensemble which is an official army choir of the Russian armed forces. The ensemble consisted of a male choir, an orchestra, and a dance ensemble.

The creator of the video is a teen from the UK

Media reports found that the creator of the video is a teen who edits the soundtrack of the videos and instead of the original music, adds pop songs to the background. The teen belongs to the UK who said to media in an interview that he was studying 20th century Russia for his History examination when he happened to chance across videos of dancing soviet soldiers online. That's when he came up with the idea. Have a look at some of the videos:
