Irish town sets new World record for 'Most Harry Potters in one place'

Professing love for J.K Rowling's boy wizard Harry Potter, an Irish town County Cork, on Monday broke the Guinness World Record for the 'Most Harry Potters in one place'. The achievement was done as part of the Taste of Bandon festival in the town, which took to Instagram to display its feat. Approximately 1,080 Harry Potters of all ages and sexes are seen in the photos flashing their wands, donned in the iconic red-gold Gryffindor scarves and the characteristic lightning bolt scar.

Secret society of Bandon Banshee

Irish reports state that the festival was set up by the Secret Society of the Bandon Banshee. The above-mentioned group is named after Bandon's connection to the magical Harry Potter universe. According to the Harry Potter book - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the infamous wizard and former Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Gilderoy Lockhart had claimed falsely that he encountered, fought and banished a banshee in County Cork. He is quoted saying, "I didn’t get rid of the Bandon Banshee by smiling at her”.

Previous records

Meanwhile, the previous record holders for the 'Most Harry Potters in one place' was held by an Australian town with 997 Harry Potters, according to reports. Bandon is ready to defend their record as Wirksworth Town is already planning an event to rival Bandon's record. Meanwhile, looking forward, Bandon has already announced its aim to gather 2020 Harry Potters in October 2020.

The Harry Potter series conceptualized by Joanne Kathleen Rowling hit shelves in the United Kingdom on June 26, 1997. It gained global fame in the next year as fiction fans all over the world fell in love with the boy wizard and the magical world. The plot revolves around boy-wizard Harry and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger as they fight the evil-wizard Voldemort to save the wizarding world. The book series has succeeded in breaking several records, crossing sales of 500 million copies in 2018, while its movie franchise produced by Warner Bros. Pictures drummed up over $7 billion at the box office.
