Elizabeth Warren shares her account of losing job because of pregnancy

Elizabeth Warren wrote about losing her first job as a teacher in New Jersey due to pregnancy in a series of tweets on Oct 8 dismissing reports doubting her.

Democratic Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren on October 8 wrote about losing her first job as a teacher in New Jersey due to pregnancy. She narrated her story of losing teaching jobs many times since she was expecting a child, specially during her campaign trail. There have been reports that doubt her claim of losing the job in 1971 because of pregnancy. Warren stood by her claims and narrated her experience in a series of tweets on Tuesday.

Warren shares her account of losing the job

The Democratic Presidential candidate posted her account of losing her first job on Twitter. She wrote that she was just 22 when she was finishing her first year of teaching. By the month of June, she was visibly pregnant and the principal told her that the job that she was supposed to get would go to somebody else.

She said that the incident was of the year 1971 before Congress prohibited pregnancy discrimination. She also said that she knows it still happens in simple and not so simple ways. She said that women facing such discrimination could fight back by telling their stories. Warren narrated her story on her campaign trail and hoped to hear the stories of others too.

She then shared an article of an American publication on October 9 which was about pregnancy discrimination at the workplace. After that, she also posted her video where she is seen speaking on the case by narrating stories of other women.

Warren opened up after becoming a public figure

Earlier while speaking to foreign media, the 70-year-old spoke about the unfortunate incident she faced when she was very young. She said that she was 22 and six months pregnant when the job that she was promised went to somebody else. She then said after she became a public figure, she opened up more about the various segments of her life such as this incident. She also wrote about it in her book when she became a US senator. Warren is currently considered a strong candidate along with former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders.
