House of Representatives investigating whether Trump lied in US-Russia probe

A top lawyer representing the United States House of Representatives conveyed to the federal court that the house is investigating whether US President Donald Trump lied in his testimony to special counsel Robert Mueller during the investigations relating to the Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections.

According to reports, general counsel, Doug Letter, told the court that the lawyers were looking into whether Trump's written answers to the federal prosecutors were genuine or not, based on an audio recording of verbal argument that was issued by the court. 

Doug asked the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit whether Trump lied during the investigation and in his answers alongside asking the court to release the classified grand jury documents in Mueller's report. 

Mueller investigation

Robert Mueller had filed his official report to Attorney General William Barr in the month of March after a year and 10-month investigation that had a detailed description about Russia's interference of hacking and boosting Trump's chances of winning the 2016 presidential elections as well as contracts between Trump's presidential campaign and Russia.

Lawyers representing the US House have already revealed the probe launched in relation to the Trump's written answers in the Mueller investigation, stating in their court filing that the documents that had not been redacted could help the prosecutors in determining the credibility of Trump's answers about his campaign's contacts.

Questions about whether Trump lied in his written testimony came as Trump tweeted that he may consider testifying in the ongoing impeachment inquiry.

Rick Gates' testimony

Donald Trump's former deputy campaign chairman, Rick Gates, testified during a trial in a case that Trump had held dialogues with adviser Roger Stone about WikiLeaks during the 2016 presidential election campaign. He further added in his testimony that after a call with Stone, Trump stated that more information will be on its way in an apparent reference to WikiLeaks.

In one of his written responses, Trump stated that he did not remember discussing the topic of WikiLeaks with Stone and also said that he did not remember Stone discussing the WikiLeaks topic with any individual associated with his 2016 campaign.
