IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers Resigns Over 'Personal Reasons'
The low-cost passenger carrier IndiGo informed via an exchange filing on Tuesday, that Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer at IndiGo, will be relieved from service effective close of business hours on March 10, 2026.
India's low-cost passenger carrier IndiGo informed via an exchange filing on Tuesday, that Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer at IndiGo, will be relieved from service effective close of business hours on March 10, 2026.
In his resignation letter directed to the board of directors at Interglobe Aviation Limited, Elbers noted that the reason behind his move was “personal”.
"I herewith submit my resignation from the position of CEO of IndiGo with effect from today. I would request that notice period may be waived off," Elbers said.
"We wish to inform you that the Board of Directors of the Company, at its meeting held today, i.e., March 10, 2026, inter-alia, took note of the resignation tendered by Mr. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer. He will be relieved from the service of the Company effective close of business hours on March 10, 2026, as per the passenger carrier's bourse filing dated March 10.
The South Asian nation's largest passenger carrier further noted that “Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director, shall in the interim assume management of the affairs of the company.”
Elbers, who took over the helm of operations at IndiGo in 2023, was under pressure after having braved the worst-aviation crisis in India last year, which caused nation-wide flight delays, upended vacation plans, weddings and flooded social media with photos and videos of luggage piling up at terminals.
On the other hand, the Gurgaon-headquartered airline in a recent exchange filing noted that around 500 flights to the Middle East, and other international destinations had been cancelled during the period between February 28 and March 3.
