Finance Ministry hosts workshop on PPP project structuring toolkit for highways sector
The workshop saw the participation of over 70 representatives from both the central and state/Union Territory governments.
The Finance Ministry conducted a two-day workshop on Friday aimed at educating project sponsoring authorities (PSAs) in the roads and highways sector on the utilisation of a web-based toolkit for structuring Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects.
Hosted by the Infrastructure Finance Secretariat (IFS) within the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), the workshop saw the participation of over 70 representatives from both the central and state/Union Territory governments, according to a statement from the finance ministry.
Given the inherent challenges in PPP projects, the IFS has developed PPP Structuring Toolkits, comprising online tools designed to support project sponsoring authorities in assessing the viability of projects for PPP implementation.
This workshop marks the inaugural event in a series aimed at disseminating these toolkits. Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth inaugurated the workshop and underscored the significance of infrastructure development, emphasising the necessity of establishing a portfolio of feasible infrastructure projects to propel India towards higher growth.
Seth further stressed that PSAs should identify opportunities to transition from the traditional Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode to the PPP mode for efficient infrastructure delivery.
