Porsche Macan EV: German luxury sports automaker Porsche AG has said that its highly anticipated Macan EV will be debuting in India in 2024, after the 2021 launch of its Taycan in the country. A senior official, on Tuesday, revealed that the automaker expects about 80 per cent of its sales in India to come from fully electrified vehicles by 2030 and is, therefore, lining up three such new vehicles to be introduced early next year.

The Macan, which will come first in this lineup, will be fully electric, synchronised with its global release. Subsequently, Porsche aims to unveil a fully electrified version of its two-door sports car, the 718, during the middle of the decade. Following this, a new iteration of the popular Cayenne will also be introduced, featuring complete electrification.

Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing, acknowledged that the pace of electric mobility's adoption in India would be influenced by the progress of charging infrastructure. Nevertheless, Porsche remains optimistic about its Indian prospects, especially among its target customer segment. "We have roughly 4,000 customers in India, but we are also looking at young customers for the future, especially Gen Z. For us, creating this relationship, creating specific events, and bringing our potential customers in contact with Porsche in a different way as a luxury experience is our focus," he said.

Platen said that the company's interest in connecting with young entrepreneurs aligns Porsche with the preferences of the younger generation. Notably, Porsche's Indian customer base is already comparatively young, with an average age gap of about 10 years as against their global customers. While the average age of Porsche customers in Europe is 50, in India this age is 40.

"We see the sustainable development of India. It is the fastest-growing major economy in the world. We have a strong belief and confidence that this is a sustainable development. When we look at all the investment willingness in India and the higher level of integration, these are all indicators of sustainable development," he said.
