Gogoro, a battery swapping company listed on Nasdaq, has entered into an initial agreement with HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd) to establish battery swapping stations across India in the near future. Under this partnership, Gogoro will create an extensive battery swapping infrastructure for electric two-wheelers and install these stations at HPCL's retail outlets across the country. HPCL boasts a network of over 21,000 retail outlets.
Horace Luke, Gogoro's founder and CEO, stated that they plan to roll out thousands of Gogoro battery swapping stations within HPCL's retail outlets across India.
"We are announcing a partnership with HPCL to roll out thousands of Gogoro battery swapping stations across its retail outlets throughout the country in the coming years," he said.
This move aligns with the country's ongoing transition towards electric two-wheelers, with battery swapping playing a pivotal role in promoting widespread adoption.
Gogoro aims to collaborate with the Indian business community, as well as national and local governments, to establish an open, accessible, and scalable battery-swapping and electric vehicle ecosystem. Amit Garg, Director of Marketing, HPCL, emphasised the importance of this partnership in developing a comprehensive battery swapping infrastructure for two-wheeler vehicles, contributing to a cleaner and more widely available electric vehicle ecosystem across Indian cities. Garg also noted that Gogoro's platform, which has already facilitated nearly 500 million battery swaps, serves as a model for HPCL to follow.
