The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) anticipates that the Renewable Energy India Expo 2023 (REI) will attract investments totalling Rs 1,500 crore in the biogas sector during its three-day run, starting on Tuesday, according to a report by PTI. The IBA, consisting of biogas plant operators, manufacturers, and planners, expects a 25 per cent increase in participation compared to the previous year.
Indian conglomerates such as Reliance Industries and Adani Solar are set to participate in the REI. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the National Institute of Bio-Energy are also providing support to the biogas pavilion.
Scheduled from October 4 to 6, at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, REI is one of the largest trade expos in renewable energy, encompassing bio-energy, solar, wind, electric vehicles, and battery storage technologies. The exhibition aims to accelerate India's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.
REI past success
IBA President A R Shukla stated, "Last year, REI witnessed significant success with numerous initiatives announced. We expect a substantial number of investor enquiries at this year's exhibition."
With the recent announcement of the Global Biofuel Alliance during the G20 meeting, international interest in India's opportunities is expected to rise. Shukla added, "We anticipate over 25,000 visitors, driven by renewed interest and the government's support for the Bio-Energy sector."
Gaurav Kedia, Chairperson of IBA, noted, "Over the years, REI has provided a platform for national and international industry players to showcase their capabilities. With a renewed focus on the Biogas sector this year, the industry has the potential to replicate the success seen in the solar energy sector in India."
Biogas sector growth
Although the current contribution of the Biogas sector to the energy mix is less than 1 per cent, it is expected to increase significantly by 2030.
In recent years, the REI Expo has evolved into a major platform for national and international stakeholders in the renewable energy sector, allowing them to showcase new technologies, products, and foster industry collaboration.
The IBA, as the first nationwide professional association for biogas plant operators, manufacturers, planners, and representatives from public policy, science, and research in India, plays a pivotal role in advancing the biogas industry.
