Ishan Kishan Takes Charge From Injured Pat Cummins, World Cup Winner Set To Lead Sunrisers Hyderabad In IPL 2026

IPL 2026: Star Indian batter Ishan Kishan has been appointed captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He will replace Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins, who is set to miss a few matches due to injury.

Currently, Kishan has been in tremendous form, especially in T20Is. In the recently concluded 2026 T20 World Cup, the 27-year-old featured in nine matches and scored 317 runs at a strike rate of 193.29 and an average of 35.22. He finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the prestigious tournament. The left-handed batter played a crucial role in the Men in Blue’s title-winning campaign.

Ishan Kishan To Lead SRH In Absence Of Pat Cummins

Kishan will lead the Hyderabad-based franchise in the absence of Cummins, who is still recovering from an injury.

In an official statement, the Sunrisers confirmed that the Australian all-rounder will miss a few matches of IPL 2026 as he continues his recovery. Until Cummins rejoins the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad, Kishan will serve as the stand-in captain. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma will act as Kishan’s deputy.

"Pat Cummins will miss a few games while recovering from injury. Until he recovers, Ishan Kishan will be the Captain and Abhishek Sharma will be the Vice-Captain," Sunrisers Hyderabad wrote in their official statement.

Ishan Kishan's Numbers In IPL

The 27-year-old joined the Hyderabad-based franchise before the start of IPL 2025. In his maiden season with the Sunrisers, Kishan played 14 matches and scored 354 runs at a strike rate of 152.58 and an average of 35.40.

Overall, Kishan has played 119 IPL matches and 112 innings, amassing 2,998 runs at a strike rate of 137.64 and an average of 29.10. He has registered one century and 17 half-centuries in the cash-rich league so far.
