Shakib Al Hasan Demands Security Guarantees For Bangladesh Return, Willing To Face Murder Trial If Conditions Met
Just days after hiS ancestral home came under attack, cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has stated his intention to return to Bangladesh.

A couple of days after his house was attacked, Shakib Al Hasan has expressed his desire to return to Bangladesh, ending his exile. The star cricketer has been living in the United States since Sheikh Hasina's Awami League lost power in 2024, led by a student-led protest which uprooted her regime in Bangladesh.
Shakib Al Hasan Sets Conditions For His Bangladesh Return
Shakib has been a very strong ally of the former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and has often been very vocal in supporting the leader. Shakib, who was also a lawmaker during Hasina's ruling hasn't announced his retirement from cricket.
The former KKR star is willing to return to Bangladesh from his exile but has set up a number of conditions before the current Bangladesh government. Shakib wants the Bangladesh authorities to ensure his safety once he returns to the country and is ready to face charges that are pending against him.
In an interaction with Reuters, he said, "If I get the clearance from the government that my security will be ensured, I am happy to go back, face the court trial and everything that's needed to be done. I know I haven't done anything.”
What Are The Charges Shakib Al Hasan Is Facing?
Just after Sheikh Hasina made her first appearance in two years, unidentified miscreants attempted to set fire to and vandalise the ancestral home of Shakib. The incident happened on August 5 and later Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, confirmed the details of the attack.
Shakib has been charged with the murder of a protester during the protest two years ago, while another corruption charge has also been filed against him. He also alleged that his bank accounts have been frozen in the last 18 months. It remains to be seen whether current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will agree to his demand.
