Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre: The Ministry of Electronics and IT has announced its plans to initiate the establishment of the Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre in collaboration with industry and academia, slated to commence in 2024. Minister of State, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, expressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions Indian leadership in semiconductor research.
"A group of top minds in semicoductor around the world and country have sat together to design the Bharat Semicoductor Research Centre," Chandrasekhar told PTI after the experts' panel submitted its report.
This institution aspires to become an important global hub for semiconductor research. The report, detailing its design and focus areas, has been crafted by experts.
Aim to become foremost semiconductor research institute
Minister Chandrasekhar optimistically anticipates that the institution's formation will commence in 2024. Over the next 4-5 years, the Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre aims to evolve into one of the foremost semiconductor research institutes.
"The design, area in which it should focus etc. have all been today authored and put in a high-quality report by the experts. I'm hopeful that in the year 2024, we should have the beginning of this institution taking shape," Chandrasekhar said.
Regarding the necessary investments, the minister assured that there would be no financial constraints. However, the precise nature of government investment, whether in the form of grants or equity for intellectual property rights (IPRs) developed at the institution, will be determined at a later stage.
