A member of the NITI has proposed an income increase as a solution to combat the impact of soaring food prices. Speaking at an event organised by NITI Aayog, Ramesh Chand, a member specialising in agriculture, highlighted the challenges associated with rising real food prices and escalating food production costs.
Chand pointed out that despite the advancements in technology, the costs of food production have not seen significant reductions, and supply chains remain fragmented. To address these issues, he advocated for raising people's incomes, as stated in a release by NITI Aayog.
Additionally, at the same event, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery expressed optimism about India achieving a substantial reduction in multidimensional poverty well before the 2030 target, offering a potential model for the global community, especially for developing nations, to pursue their own objectives.
NITI Aayog member (health) V K Paul highlighted India's progress toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) related to 'Zero Hunger,' 'Good Health & Wellbeing,' and 'Quality Education.' He emphasised India's commitment to 'Zero Hunger', particularly focussing on nutrition, non-communicable diseases, and preventable deaths.
In this context, he encouraged all stakeholders to contribute their recommendations and innovative ideas to enhance outcomes related to these goals.
