New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police after detecting a series of coordinated cyber attacks on its Post-Result Services Portal. According to the board, its 24-hour monitoring systems effectively prevented all attempted invasions.

CBSE emphasized that no data was compromised, and no systems were breached during the incident. The board stated that despite the cyber threats, all services remained secure, and that the incident has been submitted to the police for further investigation.

What Happened to the Portal?

The portal, which became operational on June 2, enables students to apply for services such as verification of marks and re-evaluation of answer scripts after the declaration of board results.

According to CBSE, the platform faced repeated cyber attacks over the last three days. The Board said the attacks involved a large volume of malicious traffic originating from multiple IP addresses located both within India and abroad.

The Board stated that the alleged aim behind these attacks was to "destabilize the platform, deny access to legitimate users, and attempt unauthorized extraction of information".

CBSE further alleged that the attacks were carried out by "elements inimical to national interest".

Was Student Data Affected?

CBSE has maintained that its systems remained secure despite the attempted disruption.

"It is emphasized that despite these malicious attempts, CBSE's systems and databases remain secure and uncompromised. No data breach or unauthorized access has been detected," the Board said.

The Board added that the attacks were successfully handled through "continuous 247 monitoring and response mechanisms".

According to CBSE, cybersecurity experts from IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Digital India Corporation, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), CERT-In and other central government agencies assisted in safeguarding the portal and ensuring its continued operation.

The Board also revealed that a major Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack involving nearly 3.8 million packets was recorded on June 3. However, technical teams were able to protect the platform and keep services running without interruption.

Thousands Have Already Applied

Despite the cyber attack attempts, CBSE said students continued to access the portal successfully.

The Board reported receiving a total of 70,433 successful applications so far. Of these, 7,314 applications were submitted for Verification of Marks, while 63,119 applications were received for re-evaluation.

The last date to apply for verification and re-evaluation is June 6, midnight.

Meanwhile, several students have taken to social media platform X, claiming they faced difficulties while submitting applications for re-evaluation and verification.

Responding to such complaints, CBSE said, "Please share your concern over DM. The CBSE team will assist you."

Students can apply through the official CBSE portal.

Cyber Attack Comes Amid OSM Controversy

The development comes at a time when CBSE is already facing scrutiny over its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

The Central government has constituted a one-member committee to examine issues related to the procurement of services for the OSM system. As per a Cabinet Secretariat memorandum issued earlier this week, the committee will be headed by S Radha Chauhan, Chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission.

The panel has been empowered to seek assistance from officials of other departments whenever required, while the Capacity Building Commission will provide secretarial support.

The committee has been directed to submit its findings to the Department of Personnel and Training within one month.

The controversy erupted after several Class 12 students alleged that the scanned copies of their answer sheets uploaded by CBSE did not match their handwriting. The claims triggered concerns about possible answer-sheet mismatches within the OSM system.

In recent weeks, students and parents have also raised questions regarding the implementation of the digital evaluation process. Complaints have included alleged technical glitches, payment-related issues and delays in verification and re-evaluation services, leading to calls for greater transparency and accountability in the examination system.
