GATE 2024 registration, exam dates OUT; 1 new paper added, 2-paper combinations introduced

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has launched the website for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2024. IISc Bangalore has also announced the dates of registrations and examination schedule. As per the website, GATE 2024 registrations will begin on August 24. The last date to register is September 29. The official website of GATE 2024 is gate2024.iisc.ac.in.

GATE 2024 Dates

GATE 2024 will be held on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024. The exams will be held in two shifts. The first shift will be held from 09:30 am to 12:30 pm and the second shift will be held from 02:30 pm to 05:30 pm.

New subject added to GATE 2024

A new paper has been added to the GATE 2024. From this year onwards, candidates will also be able to apply for the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA) paper. GATE 2024 will be conducted for 30 papers. Till last year, there were only 29 papers. 

GATE 2024: Two-paper combination 

A candidate is allowed to appear either in one or up to two papers of the GATE 2024 examination. Each GATE 2024 paper is for a total of 100 marks, General Aptitude (GA) is common for all papers (15 marks) and the rest of the paper covers the respective syllabus (85 marks).  here for a detailed pattern of the Question Papers.

GATE 2024: Eligibility Criteria

A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2024 exam.

About GATE

GATE  is a national level exam that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts. GATE 2023 will be a computer-based test (CBT).  Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to: (i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and (ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies. Even in some colleges and institutions, which admit students without MoE scholarship/assistantship, the GATE qualification is mandatory. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process.
