In Maharashtra, the BJP is leading in 25 out of the total 29 municipal corporations. In Sangli, Kolhapur, Vasai-Virar, and Malegaon, the BJP does not have a lead and is facing tough competition from the Congress. In Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, even with the NCP joining forces, the BJP is still ahead.

Maharashtra Minister Chandrakant Patil says, "People are seeing what we have done, not relying on election speeches…People are trusting us based on our past work. We raised this question in people's minds: If they (Shiv Sena UBT) wanted to do development work, why didn't they do it earlier? We did a lot of work even during the two and a half years of COVID-19..." 

"Whether the Thackeray brothers come together or Congress and NCP join hands, it is not in the interest of the people. People have understood that this is for their own selfish motives. In Mumbai, BJP will get 90 seats and Shiv Sena 40; this number may increase but will not decrease. In Pune, we will not get less than 115 seats," he added.

Names of thousands of people, who have even voted in the Assembly elections, are missing in areas where Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS or Congress. The EVM machine does not work properly... The Election Commission is not ready to listen to us. Yesterday, a meeting was held between the senior BJP leaders and the Election Commission staff, why? The Code of Conduct is still in place.”

The BJP and Shiv Sena have a pre-counting edge as both the parties are leading in four corporations on unopposed seats.

Counting begins. The first counting center where the EVMs have been opened is Malad in Mumbai.

In the Nagpur Municipal Corporation the administration is fully prepared for the counting of votes. The process will begin at 10:00 AM. Since the counting for all 38 wards of the city will begin simultaneously, the administration expects the trends to become clear between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM. However, due to the simultaneous counting in all wards, there is also a possibility of some delay in the declaration of the final results.
 

Preparations in full swing in Pune for the counting of votes for the Maharashtra local body elections. The counting center for wards number 15, 16 and 17 has been set up at Sadhna Vidyalaya, Malwadi Hadapsar.
