Bagha Jatin teaser: Dev Adhikari promises to bring deep-rooted patriotism to the screen

The makers of Bagha Jatin unveiled the teaser of their much-awaited film featuring Dev Adhikari as the main lead on September 10. The film is based on the life of the freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay, who acquired the moniker ‘Bagha Jatin’ when he killed a Bengal tiger single-handedly in his native village in 1906. Bagha means tiger in Bengali. The freedom fighter died on September 10, 1915, after a fierce battle with the British officers in the forests of Mayurbhanj.

Dev Adhikari fights for India's freedom in Bagha Jatin

Dev Adhikari will play Jatindranath Mukherjee in the film Bagha Jatin while debutant actress Sreeja Dutta will play his wife on screen. The teaser of the film featured Dev aka Jatin drawing closer to the revolutionary activities spreading his network across Bengal. He also comes in contact with Germans to procure ammunition and arms through the sea route. The teaser ended with the gun battle as the British got wind of the plan to procure the weapons from the Germans on the east coast. The teaser of the film looked promising with a combination of intense drama and action.

Bagha Jatin's biopic to get a Durga Puja release

A biopic of freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay, popularly known as 'Bagha Jatin', will hit the screens across West Bengal this Durga Puja, with actor Dev essaying the lead role. Director Arun Roy, who had earlier made period films such as 8/12 Binay Badal Dinesh and Egaro, told PTI that he has always been fascinated by the freedom struggle. Roy said the film titled 'Bagha Jatin', which will be released in Bengali and dubbed in Hindi, focuses on how Mukhopadhyay was enthused by the revolutionary spirit. 

Mukhopadhyay earned the name 'Bagha Jatin' after killing a tiger that had strayed into his Kayagram village in present-day Bangladesh in 1906, he said. The movie has been shot at Balasore in Odisha, Kolkata and also other parts of West Bengal. Bagha Jati' will be Dev's second period film. In 2021, he had starred in Dhrubo Banerjee's Golondaaj, a biopic of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, the doyen of Indian football.
