Mahima Chaudhry recently revealed the harrowing details of a near-fatal accident that posed a severe threat to her career and left her labelled as 'scarface.' The incident occurred in 1999 while she was filming the movie Dil Kya Kare in Bangalore. She opened up about her life post-accident.

Mahima Chaudhry's horrific accident

On the last day of the shoot in Bangalore, Mahima Chaudhry's life took a traumatic turn. Her car collided with a milk truck coming from the wrong direction. The crash shattered the car's windows, leading glass shards pierce Mahima's face. She recounted the terrifying experience, saying, "The glass pieces came like bullets into my face. I thought I was dying, and at that point, no one even helped me get to the hospital."

After finally reaching the hospital, she said that her mother and Ajay Devgn arrived. It was then that she faced a mirror and saw the extent of the "horror". She explained, "When they did the surgery on me, they took out 67 glass pieces." 

Sacrificing film opportunities

During her recovery period, Mahima Chaudhry had to make the difficult decision to let go of numerous film projects. She chose not to disclose the details of the accident initially, fearing that it might deter filmmakers from casting her. She explained, "If at that time, I had discussed it and said that I had cut myself like this, they would have said… 'oh, iska toh chehra kharab ho gaya (her face is ruined), let’s sign someone else.'"

Mahima on the pain of being labelled 'scarface'

Mahima emotionally recounted how she was labelled 'scarface' by the media after the accident. She shared how a magazine featured a distant shot of her with visible scars, accompanied by an insensitive headline. She shared her pain, stating, "It still hurts me." She further added that Ajay Devgn stepped in to offer support and comfort to her during this challenging time. She said that he played a pivotal role in helping her regain confidence.

Mahima shared, "Ajay was like I get scars like this all the time. He was a very generous producer. He took care of me."
