With a collection nearing ₹100 crore, the Imtiaz Ali directorial was highly acclaimed by critics and cinegoers alike. The movie, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari, was declared a sleeper hit at the box office.
While the movie is still running in select theatres, it also made its streaming debut on June 8. The Imtiaz Ali directorial is currently streaming on Netflix. The slow romance based on the subject of India-Pakistan partition has been dubbed a ‘cinematic masterpiece’ by netizens.
Those who missed the theatrical viewing of the movie and watched it on OTT for the first time expressed regret over skipping the chance to watch the film on the big screen. Others who rewatched the movie on Netflix have flooded social media with appreciation posts. Special mentions have been made for Imtiaz Ali, with cinephiles digging up his previous work and appreciating his projects. The performances of Naseerudin Shah, Sharvari and Vedang Raina also found special mentions in the praiseworthy posts made by viewers.
Earlier, director Imtiaz Ali marked a special milestone as Main Vaapas Aaunga completed 50 days in theatres. In a nod to the milestone, Imtiaz Ali penned a long note. "50 days in cinemas!! this is a rare feat for any film. Main Vaapas Aaunga achieves this today and my first thought is of gratitude towards the audience - the good people that watch cinema, who invested emotionally in the film and convinced others to watch it, who created the extraordinary word of mouth - for no reason except that they liked the film. may the tribe increase!" The filmmaker expressed gratitude toward the audience's response, adding that it inspires him to make more entertaining cinema.
