Britney Spears has been enjoying more personal freedom in recent years. However, anyone hoping that this will result in her releasing new music should probably throw those hopes away. Amid the new album release rumours, the singer clarified that she will "never return to the music industry." She went on to add if want to hear a Britney Spears song, they should be listening to contemporary music since it's already available.

Britney Spears has no album in the works

Spears took to her Instagram handle on Wednesday, January 3, and dashed all hopes of her fans to get new music from her. “Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash!!!" The singer penned, referring to reports that she was working with Charli XCX and others on a new album. "They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album...I will never return to the music industry!!!"

Previously, Page Six reported that Julia Michaels and Charli XCX have been enlisted by Spears’s team to write songs for her new album, her first since 2016. The singer denied the rumors regarding her comeback album, she did admit that she has been ghostwriting songs for other people.

Spears continued, "When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people!!! For those of you who have read my book, there are loads that you don’t know about me…I’ve written over 20 songs for other people in the past two years!!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way!!!"

Britney Spears’ last music album release

Since releasing Glory in 2016, Spears has not put out a new album. After that, she spent many years concentrating on her Las Vegas residency rather than writing new music. She continued to be under a conservatorship at the time, overseen, at least in part, by her father. She was freed from that chokehold years ago when a judge overturned it in November 2021.
