Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale released on the actress' 40th birthday on Netflix, offers a glimpse into her personal life journey with Vignesh Shivan.
Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale X review: The much-awaited documentary about the South Indian actress’ personal life has finally premiered on Netflix on 18 November, coinciding with her 40th birthday. The film explores her journey through a fairytale wedding with director Vignesh Shivan. This release follows her public dispute with actor Dhanush. However, despite the controversial excitement, the cinemagoers' reactions to the documentary have been decidedly mixed, with many calling it a ‘little bland than expected.’
Netizens finds Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale ‘boring’
The documentary was filmed by Netflix in 2022. It follows the journey of Nayanthara her love story with director Vignesh Shivan, showcasing intimate moments from the initial days of their relationship to the grand wedding ceremony. Spanning 1 hour and 22 minutes, the film offers a glimpse into the untold part of their personal lives. Upon its release, X (formerly Twitter) was flooded with mixed reviews. While some praised the first half, the second half was criticised as "pale" and "boring" by many viewers.
Fans appreciated the first half, especially the segments highlighting Nayanthara’s achievements in the Tamil film industry but did not link the rest. One user on X(formerly Twitter) wrote, "The initial family portions and cinema travel were really good. Good first half, but the second half was poor."
Another X post summed up the reaction: "It was going well until Vignesh Shivan's entry; the love and wedding scenes were a bit cringe-worthy, like watching a drama." Many expressed disappointment with the wedding's portrayal, calling it overly staged and lacking authenticity. A blunt tweet likened it to a "wedding CD documentary," describing it as "nothing interesting and very boring."
Some users also called Nayanthara’s recent controversy a ‘publicity stunt’
Two days before the film's OTT release, Nayanthara posted an open letter on social media, accusing Dhanush of preventing her from using footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her wedding documentary. In her letter, she demanded a sum of Rs 10 crore for a mere three-second clip of a song from the movie, suggesting that Dhanush was holding personal grudges against her and her husband.
Following the release, some users speculated that the entire issue could be a publicity stunt to draw attention to the project. One user remarked, "Dragging Dhanush might be the publicity stunt, see how bland the story is, she needed something to catch the audience's attention." The film also features appearances from several celebrities, including Nagarjuna, Atlee, Radhika, and director Nelson.
