'Suspicious' Deaths Of Gene Hackman And Betsy Arakawa Due To Carbon Monoxide Poisoning? Daughter Elizabeth Suspects So

Gene Hackman, 95, his wife Betsy Arakawa,63 and their pet dog were found dead at their Santa Fe residence in New Mexico on February 27. According to the cops, the Oscar-winning actor, his wife and their dog were found in separate rooms and appeared to have been "dead for some time". Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza ruled out foul play in connection to the deaths but a search warrant ruled their deaths "suspicious". The documents further mention there were "no obvious signs of a gas leak”. Meanwhile, Hackman's daughter Elizabeth Jean speculates that carbon monoxide poisoning may have been the reason behind their deaths.

Also, TMZ obtained the audio recording between the worker and police, who pleaded to send first responders. A caretaker who found them unresponsive called 911 asking them to immediately come over couple's residence.

What is Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa's cause of death?

As the investigation is underway, the cops confirmed that autopsies have been conducted and the initial findings revealed no external trauma. "An autopsy was performed. Initial findings noted no external trauma to either individual. Carbon monoxide and toxicology tests were requested for both individuals," said police. They further mentioned, "The manner and cause of death has not been determined. The official results of the autopsy and toxicology reports are pending. This remains an open investigation."

Hackman's daughter Elizabeth told TMZ that they are not sure but they think the cause of death might be from toxic fumes.

Earlier, Hackman's daughters Elizabeth and Leslie, and his granddaughter Annie, shared a statement with the New York Post confirming the death. The statement reads, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy. He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us, he was always just Dad and Grandpa. We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.”

Send somebody up here real quick: 911 call between caretaker and police

In the audio obtained by TMZ, an unidentified man, who introduced himself as a caretaker, said, "I found two or one deceased person[s] inside a house. Please send somebody really quick.” The caller, audibly sobbing, further says “[It’s] a female and a male probably. I don’t know, sir. Just send somebody up here really quick.” He added that he wasn't at home with them and had no idea if they were awake or breathing.

“[The house] is closed. It’s locked. I can’t go in. But I see that she (Betsy) is lying down on the floor from the window.”

When the operator asks if they appear to be awake, he replies: “No, they're not moving, Kust send somebody out here. Really quick."

The couple has been living in their New Mexico house since Hackman retired from Hollywood in 2004.
