Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour has secured its place as the highest-grossing film in box office history among concert and documentary films. With impressive global earnings surpassing $261.6 million, the pop star's latest cinematic venture has made waves both in the United States and internationally.
Taylor Swift's record-breaking debut
The Eras Tour stormed onto the scene with a record-breaking opening weekend, raking in $92.8 million in North America and an additional $30.7 million internationally. This cumulative total of $123.5 million not only establishes it as the highest-grossing concert film ever but also dethrones the previous record-holder, Michael Jackson's This Is It, which grossed $261.2 million globally in 2009.
Taylor Swift's strategic release date
Taylor Swift's success is not only attributed to her musical prowess but also to her unconventional release strategy. Instead of opting for traditional studio distribution, she partnered with AMC Theatres, the world's largest cinema chain. This strategic move allowed Swift, serving as a producer on the film, to claim approximately 57% of ticket sales, a notable departure from the standard revenue-sharing model.
Adam Aron, Chairman, and CEO of AMC Theatres, expressed his congratulations and gratitude to Swift for the remarkable box office performance.
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour on OTT
After turning out to be a box office success, Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour premiered on OTT on the occasion of the singer's birthday on December 13. Prime Video shared the news on its social media handles confirming the film's digital premiere. However, the movie is still not available for streaming as it has premiered in the US and Canada alone till now. In the coming days, the commercially successful concert film will also be available for streaming in India.
The Eras Tour has completed its box office run, collecting close to USD 250 million worldwide and over USD 178 million in the US. Now, the film, which Taylor said is for those who missed out on her Eras Tour, is available for streaming at home. Prime Video shared the news on social media writing, “Are you ready for it? Rent TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR (EXTENDED VERSION) concert film on Prime Video now.”
