Sarke Chunar Lyricist Raqueeb Alam Shrugs Off Blame After Nora Fatehi Song Triggers Massive Backlash, Complaints: Maine Sirf Word By Word...
Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, from KD: The Devil, has attracted huge controversy for its vulgar, double-meaning lyrics. Now, Lyricist Raqueeb Alam issues a clarification on the matter through his social media.
Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt's latest song, Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, from KD: The Devil, has attracted controversy owing to its vulgar, double-meaning lyrics. Netizens have been raging over the song soon after its release, following the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issuing a notice. Moreover, an advocate and social activist, Vineet Jindal, has approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking an immediate ban and removal of the song, alleging that its lyrics and visuals are obscene and harmful, particularly to minors. So far, the makers have removed the Hindi version of the song from YouTube. Now, Lyricist Raqueeb Alam issues a clarification on his social media.
Clarifying the matter, Raqueeb Alam shared a note on his Instagram that reads, “Mere gaane "Sarke Sarke" ke lyrics ko lekar jo bhi vivaad samne aaya hai, main uspar apni taraf se kuch kehna chahta hoon. Sabse pehle, main yeh spasht karna zaroori samajhta hoon ki is gaane ke har ek shabd film ke director dwara likhe gaye original Kannada lyrics ka hi anuvad (translation) hai. In lyrics mein mera ek bhi mool shabd shamil nahi hai maine sirf word by word original lyrics ko translate kiya hai.”
He further wrote, “Phir bhi, agar is gaane ke shabdon se kisi bhi vyakti ki bhavnaon ko thes pahunchi hai, to main iske liye dil se khed vyakt karta hoon. Mera uddeshya kabhi bhi kisi ko hurt karna nahi raha hai. Aap sabka pyaar aur samarthan mere liye bahut maayne rakhta hai. Dhanyavaad. Raqueeb Alám”
On March 15, the makers of the upcoming Kannada pan-India film KD: The Devil released the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke in Hindi and Kannada, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt. Some viewers praised Nora’s energetic performance, but many social media users criticised the track and described its lyrics as “vulgar.”
The controversy intensified when advocate Vineet Jindal requested legal action against the song. The complaint has also been marked to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The complaint has also stated that a separate criminal complaint has already been filed with the Delhi Police Cyber Cell in relation to the song.
Not just in Hindi, the lyrics of Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke are also objectionable in the original language, Kannada, and audiences in both regions are questioning the vulgarity.
