Kushi OTT release preponed after Vijay Deverakonda, Samantha film crashes at box office?

The makers of Kushi, the recently released Telugu romantic drama starring Vijay Deverakonda and Samatha Ruth Prabhu, are reportedly looking to release the film on digital platforms sooner than planned. Kushi hit the big screens on September 1 and is reportedly set for an OTT premiere either on September 30 or October 4.

It was reported that the initial plan of Kushi makers was to release the film on Netflix much later in November after a steady run at the box office. However, after the romantic drama failed to sustain momentum at the ticket window despite a good beginning, the plans changed.

Kushi collected over Rs 35 crore on its opening weekend in India. However, the business saw a major dip from Monday onwards, and Kushi never regained momentum. 

After 12 days of its release, Kushi has earned Rs 45 crore in India and is unlikely to go past the Rs 50 crore mark.

Who’s saying what

As per reports, Kushi OTT premiere may happen before the end of this month or in early October. There are no signs of a resurgence in its business and the way forward is a digital release.

Kushi is estimated to have collected Rs 38 lakh crore on Wednesday, taking its domestic nett collection to Rs 45.24 crore. Vijay Deverakonda's previous pan-India release Liger too had failed to make an impact at the box office. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 90 crore, Liger gross worldwide collections stood at Rs 56.18 crore.

Kushi is directed by filmmaker Shiva Nirvana, who had previously helmed Nani starrer Tuck Jagdish. Besides Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kushi also stars Vennela Kishore, Sachin Khedekar and Murali Sharma in prominent roles.
