Asha Bhosle Dies At 92: PM Modi, Prez Droupadi Murmu, Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut Lead Tributes For Veteran Singer
The legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 on April 12, 2026, marking the end of an era for Indian music.
Mumbai: India woke up to a quieter world today as the "Queen of Indipop" and legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle breathed her last at the age of 92 at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital
The veteran singer was admitted to the facility on Saturday evening following complaints of extreme exhaustion and a persistent chest infection.
According to a medical bulletin released by Dr Pratit Samdani, she suffered from multi-organ failure and a subsequent cardiac arrest around noon on Sunday.
Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, and other family members were present at the hospital during her final moments.
A Nation in Mourning
As news of her demise spread, a wave of grief swept across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had expressed concern over her health earlier this morning, took to X to offer his condolences:
"Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle Ji, one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known. Her extraordinary musical journey, spanning decades, enriched our cultural heritage and touched countless hearts across the world. Be it her soulful melodies or vibrant compositions, her voice carried timeless brilliance. I’ll always cherish the interactions I’ve had with her.
