Made In Heaven creator Zoya Akhtar says season 2 made through LGBTQ, women's perspective

Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti is the duo behind Made in Heaven series. The story revolves around Tara, portrayed by Sobhita Dhulipala, and Karan, played by Arjun Mathur, who run a wedding planning company in the bustling city of Delhi. The upcoming season promises to take their individual journeys to new heights, apart from introducing fresh characters and a team of new directors at the helm.

Zoya Akhtar addresses a 4-year delay between seasons

Zoya expressed her gratitude to the fans who patiently waited for the new season, saying, "We were extremely nervous when Made In Heaven came out, then it just picked up. No matter what I posted, everyone used to just ask me when is the new season of Made In Heaven coming up, on social media. I’m thankful to the fans that they held on to it and haven’t forgotten the show. I was getting trolled, and so I wanted to drop the new season soon."

Co-creator Reema Kagti shed light on the reason behind the four-year gap between the seasons. She explained, "Season one did so well that we took our time writing season two because we wanted to up the game, and also COVID-19 created a lot of chaos with the shoot. It’s us trying to explore different aspects of female experiences in a society like us, which is rooted in culture but we are also changing and modernising. We are obsessed with exploring different female angles."

Made in Heaven to explore diverse perspective

The show aims to present a unique perspective by portraying its narrative through the eyes of women and the LGBTQ+ community, as Zoya highlighted, "We lens this show through women and through the LGBTQ community. So, it’s an expansion of that, thematically. It’s been about fitting in society."

Sobhita Dhulipala and Jim Sarbh, who play pivotal roles in the series, expressed their excitement about the upcoming season. Sobhita said, "It’s been a privilege and pleasure to play Tara. In this season, while she continues to fulfill her role to the best of her capacity, I do think she is up for a magical identity transformation." Jim added, "I got to work with the best of directors in this show. It was a pleasure to develop a character with them. I loved playing Adil. I like the reach of Amazon Prime Video. It’s making the show which is loved by Indians, global."

The new season of Made in Heaven is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 10. Alongside Sobhita and Jim, the star-studded cast includes Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora, Mona Singh, and more. The show boasts an array of talented directors, including Neeraj Ghaywan, Alankrita Shrivastava, Nitya Mehta, among others.
