Olivia Rodrigo is currently gearing up for the release of her sophomore album Guts. The first single from the album, Vampire, was unveiled by her on June 30. After reading the lyrics, fans presumed that it addressed Olivia’s feud with pop star Taylor Swift. The singer has finally broken her silence on the topic.

3 things you need to know

  • Olivia Rodrigo debuted at the age of 17 with the single Drivers License in 2020.
  • It was followed by her first album Sour in 2021.
  • The singer broke multiple records with her album and went on to win three Grammy Awards that year.

Is Vampire about Olivia Rodrigo's feud with Taylor Swift?

After the release of Vampire, fans conjectured that Taylor Swift was the subject of the song. Specifically, the lyrics "Bloodsucker, fame f*cker, bleedin' me dry like a goddamn vampire,” made people believe it was inspired by the plagiarism controversy Olivia found herself embroiled in for her debut album.

In a conversation with The Guardian, the singer neither confirmed nor denied if Vampire is about Taylor. She said, “I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing… I was very surprised when people thought that."

Olivia Rodrigo's plagiarism controversy

The Vampire hypothesis is a component of a bigger fan theory that suggests Olivia and Taylor may have had a falling out. The two stars were really close before the Sour Royalties controversy. As a superfan, Olivia frequently gushed about Taylor and her music, and Taylor gave back by posing with her and promoting her albums. However, communication between the two has significantly decreased since the royalties controversy.

Taylor was credited as a co-writer on Deja Vu because of the song's resemblance to her own smash, Cruel Summer. After listeners pointed out similarities between the song Good 4 U and Paramore's hit Misery Business, Rodrigo also gave the band half of the song's credits and profits.
