Chhaava Moviegoers Duped With Inflated Ticket Prices, Charged Double By Lucknow Multiplex Chain

A popular multiplex chain in Lucknow has been accused of looting customers by charging them extra money for movie tickets. The theatre at Saharaganj Mall in the city and the team of officials working there are involved in this "scam". A video of the customers confronting the management for overcharging them has also surfaced on social media but was taken down.

A woman can be seen in the video sharing her experience as she tried to buy four tickets for the new Bollywood film Chhaava. As revealed by her, she first checked the ticket prices at BookMyShow first. The cost was ₹160 per ticket, making the total ₹640. With BookMyShow's convenience fee, the final amount was revealed to be ₹758. In order to not pay convenience, the woman and her friend decided to buy ticket from the counter at the multiplex.

However, the staff at the billing counter presented them with a bill of ₹1,038 - charging them ₹259 per ticket instead of ₹160. When the woman asked why the price was so high as compared to the app, the counter staff claimed the amount included GST and other charges.

The group confronted the staff sternly, pointing out that GST was already included in the prices displayed on BookMyShow. Sensing trouble, the counter staff got nervous and removed a "combo" offer and reduced the bill to ₹938 - still much higher than the original ₹640.

When the customer insisted on a proper breakdown of the bill, she was and refused initially. The staff allegedly got irritated, threw her pen, and walked away to talk to her manager. After returning, she finally gave them the correct price of ₹640 - proving that the additional charges were illegitimate.

The woman in the video claimed that charging extra money at the counters was a practice. She recalled how overcharging became an issue in another cinema hall in Lucknow. The woman claimed that she took back the extra money from the staff there as well.
