Mumbai Police Denies Ranveer Allahbadia's Request To Record Statement At Home In India's Got Latent Controversy | Highlights

An old video of Priyanka Chopra has gone viral in which she is seen schooling Allahbadia about the importance of family. The video dates back to when the actress appeared on BeerBiceps. When Allahbadia asked, “Do you still go to family functions and all that? Can you because of the fame angle because you’ve reached this level of fame?" To this, she candidly replied, "So, you’re saying I’m not going to dance on the baraat of my brother’s wedding? Family is most important to me. My fame is a by-product of my job. It does not define me. My fame is not my job. It’s very clear to me. I’m not famous for a living. I work for a living. And fame comes with it."

She elaborated, “Public people, even though you’re seeing a celebrity or someone every day on billboards or magazines, there’s still a human being behind them. They also like to eat paratha and achar. They also like to sit in a palti and dance at the baraat of your cousin and make sure that you get great food."

At the Chhaava audio launch event, Rahman was asked by Vicky Kaushal to describe his music in 3 emojis. The composer and singer said, "with mouth closed". “I think, past week we have seen what all happens when the mouth opens," Rahman said, hinting at the unfolding India's Got Latent controversy. The comment caught Vicky and others by surprise, who said, “Talk about roasting." He then asked what would the second emoji be. To this, Rahman added, “All three mouths closed."

The show's rising popularity led to speculations from many about how much Samay Raina must be making off India's Got Latent. Many anticipated that the comedian would be making at least ₹3-4 crore a month from India's Got Latent, adding YT ad revenue, membership fees and brand endorsement. Appearing on a podcast, Samay jokingly shared that he was making ₹5 crores a month from his creative endeavours, including India's Got Latent. The show, which started in June 2024, had aired 18 episodes till now. Some episodes were shot for and are ready to be released in the coming time.

In Prakhar Ke Pravachan podcast, Samay Raina, while talking about his brand of humour and how that could offend people, shared that the "line" in comedy has to be self-asserted, and not all can be justified in the name of a "joke". "You have to set the line for yourself. The filter is very subjective. I have met many stand-up comics who are very ha**** in real life but their sets are clean. They want to attract a set of audiences like, corporate or family," the comedian shared.

Following the Ranveer Allahbadia controversy, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology asks the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to provide a note regarding the amendments required in all the laws related to Media due to the emergence of new forms of technology and media platforms by February 17, ANI reported.
 

In a recent development, the IT & IB Parliamentary panel have written to the Centre seeking their intervention in the ongoing Allahbadia controversy. The Ministry has also asked for an addressing approach on social media as well. The panel has called the secretary of the IT & IB Ministry today, February 13, in the meeting. This comes after the YouTuber skipped the appearance at Mumbai police station on Wednesday.

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia and India's Got Latent, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani has announced that he will not be hosting Captain America: Brave New World event. It was scheduled for Valentine's Day, February 14. Taking to his Instagram Stories, Ashish shared a post where he revealed his decision to not host the show and cited the reason that he is unwell. He wrote, "Hello Doston, I am not keeping well, so unfortunately, I won't be able to attend and host the screening of the film Captain America: Brave New World on Valentine's Day. But don't worry, those who are selected can still go and enjoy the show. I know, I am gonna miss y'all so much! Love you 3000."

In the controversy over YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia's remarks on a show, BJD MP Sasmit says, "The committee started its deliberations today. The chairman was very kind to allow members of the committee to raise if they had any concerns regarding this issue. Several members cutting across party lines raised this issue and expressed the need to actually take strong, stringent measures to ensure that such things do not recur. The Chairman has also taken a very strong view of this. The committee is seized of the matter, and the representatives from the ministry were also there in this committee meeting, and this matter has been taken up at the highest level..."

Ranveer Allahbadia, who was summoned by the police in Mumbai regarding his remark on India's Got Latent, had requested to record his statement at home. However, now it has been reported that the police denied the request and asked him to record a statement at Khar Police Station.

A second notice has been issued against Ranveer Allahbadiya. Mumbai police have asked the YouTuber to appear today, January 13, before the Khar police station. The second notice was issued as Allahbadiya skipped to come on January 12.

Raghu Ram, who was on the judges' panel of India's Got Latent, was snapped at the Maharashtra Cyber ​​Police office on Thursday afternoon. He is one of the judges summoned by the police to record their statements in the light of on-going controversy.

Veteran filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri reacted to Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversy, which landed them in legal trouble. He reshared Comedian's statement on his X handle and cracked a joke about Samay being a Kashmiri Pandit. Taking to his Instagram handle, Munawar Faruqui shared a note in which he wrote, “Samay, art jo haina vo spring ki hai, jitnaa dabaoge utnaa uper uthega. My G is going to come out so strong you will see."

Ranveer Allahabadia, show creator Samay Raina, Apoorva Mukhija aka The Rebel Kid, Jaspreet Singh and Ashish Chanchlani were part of the controversial IGL episode. 

"These comments, which have sparked widespread public outrage, violate the dignity and respect owed to every individual, particularly in a society that upholds equality and mutual respect. In light of this concern, under the instructions of NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, a hearing has been scheduled to address the controversial remark made by the content creators on India's Got Latent," the NCW said in a statement.

“I condemn the language used (in the show). The NCW is very serious about the matter. We have written to the IT ministry in this regard. There is a need to regulate content on such platforms," The National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said about India's Got Latent row.

Apart from Ranveer Allahabadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Mukhija, Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani, India's Got Latent producers, Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra, are also under police scanner.

Reportedly, Samay Raina urged that he be given time till mid-March to make an in-person appearance in the obscenity cases filed against him and others. He is currently in the US for his comedy tour. However, his request has been denied by the Mumbai Cyber Cell.
