As Chiyaan Vikram's upcoming action thriller Dhruva Natachathiram gears up for a theatrical release, here are a few things you need to know about the Gautham Vasudev Menon directorial:

The film has been in making for 10 years

Gautham Vasudev Menon had initially planned to make the film way back in 2013 with Suriya, with whom he had collaborated on several projects like Kaakha Kaakha and Vaaranam Ayiram. However, the two artists amicably decided to shelve the project citing ‘creative differences’ as the official reason. Menon publicly spoke about his intentions to restart the project from scratch only in 2015, and eventually pronounced the project with Chiyaan Vikram.

Even though Vikram and Menon reached the prime of their film careers around the same time (in the early 2000s), the two never collaborated on a project. Before Dhruva Natchathiram, Gautham Vasudev Menon has directed 21 films in his career while Chiyaan Vikram has worked in over 70 films to date.

Dhruva Natchathiram is a two-part spy thriller

Dhruva Natchathiram is a two-part spy thriller franchise. While the part one, titled Chapter One: Yuddha Kaandam, is due to release the coming Friday, the makers haven’t announced neither the title nor the release date of the second part.

The total duration of both the instalments of the film combined is a mammoth 280 minutes. This is the main reason why Menon decided to release the film in two parts.

Gautham Vasudev Menon began shooting the film in 2017. However, the film faced major setbacks from a financial aspect, causing the film’s shooting to halt several times. A big blow also appeared in the form of COVID Pandemic that brought the shooting to a screeching halt for a long stretch of time.

Dhruva Natchathiram is shot in 7 countries all over the globe, including places like Abu Dhabi, Bulgaria, New York and Coonoor.
