Prabhas Or Alia Bhatt, Who Takes Precedence For Nag Ashwin? Kalki 2898 AD Sequel Uncertain

Nag Ashwin’s directorial Kalki 2898 AD hit the big screens on June 27. The science fiction combines the elements of science with Indian epic Mahabharata had struck the right chord with the audience which earned positive response and good numbers at the box office. Amid this, now there are reports that the sequel of the film might have been shelved.

Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD shelved?

According to several reports, Nag Ashwin might be working on a female-led project, which will star Alia Bhatt in the lead role.  Rumours are rife that this will be Alia Bhatt ’s second pan-India film after RRR. The untitled film of Alia Bhatt will reportedly begin shooting in the second half of 2025 and will be produced by Vyjayanthi films. Nag Ashwin intends to make Alia Bhatt led project in a higher scale and similar to feamle-oriented film like Mahanati. However, the official announcement is yet to be made. 

Now, this has led to rumours that Nag Ashwin has put Kalki 2 on hold or possibly shelved it as the first part didn’t get much profit and also he doesnt wan’t to take risk of investing another ₹500 crores into it. There are also reports that the first part of Kalki 2898 AD which took a lot of time for completion might as well take so much time for the second part as well. For the unversed, Kalki 2898 AD, starring  Prabhas ,  Deepika Padukone ,  Amitabh Bachchan  and Kamal Haasan, broke several records at the box office. Since its release, the movie has minted over Rs 1100 crore at the worldwide box office. 

Prabhas who starred as the main lead in Kalki 2898 AD first part will be busy with several projects including horror comedy The Raja Saab, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and Hanu Raghavapudi’s Fauji. With these projects, Prabhas will be completely jam-packed for two years.

Alia Bhatt’s upcoming project

Alia Bhatt will next be seen alongside Sharvari Wagh in Yash Raj Film’s next Spy Universe movie Alpha. 

The upcoming title will see the actors join the spyverse, which already boasts of blockbuster movies such as Pathaan as well as the Tiger and War franchises.
