7 Killed, 38 Injured As 2 Buses Collide On Gujarat-Maharashtra Highway

Surat: Seven people were killed and 38 others were injured after a head-on collision between two luxury buses on the Gujarat-Maharashtra Highway on Tuesday. The incident took place in Bardoli Tehsil of Surat district, Gujarat.

The accident took place when one of the buses collided with a water tanker behind. The driver of the bus lost control of the steering wheel, with the bus crossing over the divider and collided with another bus approaching from the opposite direction. 

Horrific visuals from the scene one of the buses overturned, with smoke billowing from it. The front part of the other bus was severely damaged, revealing the force of collision.

Both the buses belonged to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

Efforts are underway to douse the fire that erupted in one of the buses following the accident. Meanwhile, the injured individuals have been admitted to various hospitals across Bardoli.

Prem Vir Singh, IG, Surat Rural, said, “On National Highway 56, along the stretch leading from Bardoli towards Vyara, a collision occurred between two passenger buses bearing Maharashtra registration plates. As a result, one of the buses caught fire, and passengers aboard the other bus sustained injuries. Seven people have lost their lives, and 38 people have been injured.”

 The bodies of the deceased have been sent to hospital for post-mortem.
