Chandigarh: Ahead of the crucial Punjab Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has initiated stringent disciplinary action against one of the party's legislators. The party has reportedly expelled Sukhvir Singh Maiserkhana, who represents the Maur constituency, citing involvement in activities detrimental to the organisation.
The move is being viewed as critical as it comes months before the state goes to polls. According to party sources, Maiserkhana was shown the door after he publicly contradicted the government's flagship narrative on education reform.
The expulsion is linked to a video that the legislator himself posted on social media, in which he openly challenged AAP's much-publicised ‘Shiksha Kranti’ initiative. Instead of endorsing the claims of transformation in government schools, he exposed glaring gaps on the ground, particularly concerning staff crunch in his own assembly segment.
Emotional Video On Social Media Becomes Flashpoint
The controversy began after Maiserkhana went live on social media for nearly 14 minutes. In the footage, the Maur MLA appeared visibly emotional while speaking about the acute shortage of teachers in state-run schools falling under his constituency.
He detailed how classrooms were running without adequate teaching staff, leaving students to suffer despite tall claims of an education revolution. The legislator did not limit his criticism to local administration; he stated that he had been consistently taking up the matter of fresh teacher recruitment with the top leadership.
Maiserkhana claimed that for a considerable period, he had been apprising Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia about the crisis. He alleged that despite repeated representations, the problem remained unaddressed, forcing him to speak out publicly.
Party Alleges Rumour-Mongering And Image Tarnishing
Reacting to the public outburst, the Aam Aadmi Party has accused its own MLA of engaging in anti-party conduct. The party's charge against Maiserkhana includes spreading false rumours and attempting to malign the image of the organisation at a time when it is projecting the education model as a major electoral plank.
The leadership contended that by raising questions about his own government in an open forum, the MLA had crossed the line of internal discipline. By questioning the ground reality of government schools, he had essentially raised a finger at the very governance model that AAP has been showcasing across the country, leading to his expulsion.
