AIIMS-Jodhpur Doctor Found Dead In Hospital Washroom During Duty Break: What Happened At 1 pm?

Jodhpur: A 31-year-old postgraduate resident doctor at AIIMS-Jodhpur was found dead inside a hospital washroom on Tuesday. His body was recovered from the washroom after his colleagues raised an alarm when he failed to return to duty following a break. The Jodhpur police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and have so far suspected suicide.

The deceased was identified as Dr Raj Nilesh Yadav, a first-year postgraduate student and resident doctor in the Department of Anaesthesia. Reportedly, Dr Raj had been performing his duties in the operation theatre before stepping away during a break at around 1 pm.

According to police, the doctor went into the washroom but did not return to the operation theatre. His colleagues eventually became concerned and began searching for him. When they called his mobile phone, they heard it ringing from inside the bathroom. As there was no response from within, they broke open the door and found Raj lying unconscious on the floor.

Basni Station House Officer Nitin Dave stated that Dr Raj Nilesh had been working in the OT when he left for the washroom during his break. "He was on duty in the OT Tuesday. During break at about 1 pm, he came to his restroom but did not re-emerge to resume his duty," Dave said.

Raj was immediately taken to the emergency department after being discovered, but doctors declared him dead. The police said that some syringes were found near Raj inside the washroom. Based on the circumstances at the scene, the  cops suspect that he may have injected himself with a lethal drug. "We informed his family members and are awaiting the post-mortem report," the SHO said.

No Suicide Note Found So Far

The police have not recovered any suicide note from the spot so far, but have taken possession of Dr Raj's mobile phone and are examining it along with other material evidence as part of the investigation.

A forensic team is also assisting the police in scrutinising the scene and the available evidence. The police officials are examining the washroom and surrounding circumstances to establish a clear sequence of events leading to the doctor's death.

The police officials stated that all possible aspects of the case are being considered before any further legal action is taken. The post-mortem examination is expected to provide further information, while forensic findings, the mobile phone and other evidence will be assessed alongside the circumstances in which Dr Raj was found.

The investigation remains underway as police await the post-mortem report and continue efforts to ascertain exactly what happened during the brief period between the resident doctor's departure from duty and his discovery inside the washroom.
